Job description

General Purpose of Job:

The Aviation Safety Manageris responsible for leading and advancing Avflight's Safety Management System (SMS) across a diverse, multi-location FBO network. This role blends proven SMS leadership, deep operational aviation experience (5+ years in aviation safety/SMS), and strong interpersonal skills to ensure regulatory compliance, operational consistency, and a strong, proactive safety culture at all Avflight locations.

The Aviation Safety Manager supports field operations, partners with leadership, and continuously enhances safety programs, training, and standards to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient FBO operations across the Avflight network.

Duties:

Safety Leadership & Oversight

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day activities and priorities of Avflight's safety team across the FBO network.
  • Serve as the primary safety subject matter expert and point of contact for Avflight locations.
  • Support General Managers and operational leaders in addressing safety-related concerns and initiatives.

SMS Implementation & Management

  • Maintain, enhance, and standardize Avflight's Safety Management System (SMS) across all locations.
  • Develop, update, and manage SMS policies, procedures, manuals, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure SMS alignment with FAA guidance and industry best practices for FBO operations.

Risk Management

  • Identify operational hazards specific to FBO environments, including fueling, ramp operations, facilities, vehicles, and personnel.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement practical mitigation strategies.
  • Track and follow up on corrective and preventive actions.

Compliance & Auditing

  • Ensure compliance with applicable FAA, OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ATA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage internal safety audits across the FBO network.
  • Support external audits and regulatory inspections as required.

Incident Investigation & Reporting

  • Lead and oversee investigations of incidents, accidents, fuel quality events, and safety reports.
  • Perform root cause analysis and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting within the SMS framework.

Safety Promotion & Culture

  • Promote a positive, just, and proactive safety culture throughout the Avflight network.
  • Act as a trusted safety resource for employees at all levels.
  • Support safety communication initiatives, campaigns, and best practice sharing between locations.

Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor safety performance indicators (KPIs) and analyze data to identify trends and systemic risks.
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to leadership.

Standards, SOPs & Training

  • Ensure compliance with established Avflight Standards across all FBO locations.
  • Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Support the development and implementation of standardized training and recordkeeping systems for safety-related training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Avflight's safety and operational objectives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years of experiencein aviation safety and/or Safety Management Systems (SMS).
  • Experience in a leadership role (Trainer, Lead, Supervisor, or Management).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug test.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • Fuel Quality Control & Assurance (ATA 103)
    • NFPA codes applicable to aviation and fueling operations
    • SPCC guidelines and requirements
    • OSHA General Industry regulations
    • Safety and operational training requirements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated strong safety record and commitment to workplace safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, multi-location environment.
  • Valid Driver's License with a driving record that meets company standards.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently.
