THE POSITION

Become a Clerical Assistant 2 with the Department of Human Services and support essential community services. This position gives you an active role in keeping LIHEAP operations efficient at the Fayette County Assistance Office. You will help manage application materials, guide callers, and keep accurate records for the program. Your work will help strengthen a program that provides important assistance across the county.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps maintain smooth and accurate processing for the Energy Assistance Program within the Fayette County Assistance Office. It supports staff through organized clerical work and consistent communication. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Mail Handling: Open daily mail and route materials to the correct files or staff
  • File Management: Maintain alphabetical files for incoming, pending, and completed applications as well as computer printout records
  • Phone Support: Answer calls, provide referrals, take messages, and arrange applicant interviews or mail applications
  • Collateral Contacts: Make outreach contacts with agencies and vendors to support the LIHEAP program
  • Document Preparation: Complete memos, letters, forms, and proofread materials for accuracy
  • Computer Processing: Input application data, process crisis grants, update applicant information, and retrieve daily confirmation reports

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time, seasonal employment, 37.5 hours per week.
    • This is a full time, seasonal position that typically runs for 6-8 months during the fall and winter seasons to assist clients in the process of applying for heating assistance.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch.
  • Work Conditions: Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
  • Telework: This position may be eligible to telework part time. Specific details of the telework schedule will be discussed during the interview process. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown, PA. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly rate of $18.83 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
