Job description
Reports To: Building Principal & Superintendent
Classification: Exempt / Certified or Non-Certified (Depending on Licensure)
Work Year: 187 days (185 teacher contract + 2 before workshop week)Â
One Year Position with possibility of renewal
Position Purpose
The MS/HS Dean of Students and District Assessment Coordinator plays a pivotal role in shaping our school climate and ensuring data-driven academic success. This dual-role position splits its focus between two critical areas: foster a positive, safe, and celebratory school culture for our secondary students, and lead the strategic coordination and administration of all district-wide assessment programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. School Climate & Student Support (Dean of Students Role)
- Active Student Engagement: Maintain a high-visibility presence throughout the school day. This includes actively monitoring and engaging with students during lunches, passing times, and morning arrival/afternoon dismissal to promote a safe, positive, and orderly environment.
- PBIS Leadership: Lead the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) committee. Collaborate with staff to design, implement, and refine school-wide positive behavior expectations, interventions, tier-one strategies, and student celebrations.
- MTSS Leadership:Â Lead the secondary Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team. Facilitate regular, data-driven meetings with counselors, social workers, and teachers to identify students in need of Tier 2 or Tier 3 academic, behavioral, or social-emotional interventions.
- Student Behavior & Restorative Practices: Address minor and major student behavior referrals in a timely, consistent, and restorative manner. Work closely with families, counselors, and teachers to resolve conflicts and support student growth.
- AmeriCorps Internal Coach:The AmeriCorps Internal Coach serves as the primary on-site supervisor and mentor for AmeriCorps members at our host site, bridging the gap between program requirements and day-to-day operations. Key responsibilities include conducting regular fidelity observations of member-led interventions, providing constructive coaching to build members' technical and professional skills, and ensuring strict compliance with AmeriCorps regulations regarding timesheet approvals and service hours. Additionally, the Internal Coach leads data-driven progress reviews, monitors member morale through regular 1:1 check-ins, and acts as the vital liaison between site administration and the external AmeriCorps program management team. Ideal candidates possess a Bachelor's degree in education or human services, at least two years of experience in an educational or non-profit setting, and strong coaching, data literacy, and communication skills.
2. District Assessment & Data Coordination (Coordinator Role)
- Comprehensive Test Management: Coordinate, schedule, and oversee the logistical administration of all district and state testing, including:
- Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs)
- FastBridge (Universal screening and progress monitoring)
- ACT/Â PSAT(District-hosted college entrance exams)
- Advanced Placement (AP) examinations
- ACCESS for ELLs (English language proficiency testing)
- Benchmark Testing & Training: Manage and monitor the implementation of FastBridge benchmark testing three times a year. Train staff on testing protocols, ensure testing accommodations are correctly applied, and troubleshoot system issues.
- Data Integrity & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to state and national testing security protocols. Manage student testing rosters, finalize data submissions, and maintain clean, organized compliance records for the Department of Education.
- Data Translation: Help teachers and administrative teams interpret assessment data (specifically FastBridge and MCA growth data) to inform multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and classroom instructional strategies. Create data analysis reports for administration and school board.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Valid state educational license (Minnesota teaching or administrative license strongly preferred).
- Minimum of 35 years of successful classroom teaching experience. Middle school level experience is preferred, but all levels will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Student-Centered Leadership:Â Â Ability to build strong, empathetic relationships with middle and high school students while maintaining firm, consistent, and high behavioral expectations.
- Logistical Mastermind: Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to manage complex schedules, proctor assignments, and strict testing windows.
- Data Literacy: Comfort navigating data dashboards (like FastBridge and the standard state testing portals) and translating spreadsheets into actionable student interventions.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, staff, and families during both celebratory and challenging moments.
Physical Requirements: This position requires significant mobility, including the ability to stand and walk for extended periods during lunch periods and passing times, as well as the ability to sit and work at a computer terminal during high-volume testing coordination windows.
