JOB SUMMARY

The Fashion Design Department is seeking an Adjunct Professor to teach Draping. This course explores three-dimensional design techniques through the art of draping, providing students with hands-on experience in creating garments directly on a dress form. The ideal candidate will have industry experience in draping, garment construction, and eveningwear design, as well as a strong passion for teaching and mentorship.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver course content that incorporates best practices in draping techniques.

  • Guide students in expressing three-dimensional design ideas through muslin draping on dress forms.

  • Encourage creative experimentation to help students develop finished garment designs.

  • Teach students to analyze existing garments and sketches to determine appropriate draping methods.

  • Instruct on truing patterns and refining draped designs to ensure proper fit, balance, and proportion.

  • Provide problem-solving strategies for fit, construction, and finishing techniques specific to draped eveningwear.

  • Evaluate students' work and provide constructive feedback on technical skills and design execution.

  • Introduce and discuss appropriate production methods for both finished draped garments and eveningwear designs.

  • Foster an engaging and supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth and creativity.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Master's degree in Fashion Design or related field

  • Prior teaching experience at the college level preferred.

  • Strong understanding of patternmaking, fabric manipulation, and couture techniques.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide clear instruction and feedback.
