Experience in agriculture, animal husbandry, and machinery operation is often beneficial for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a farm ranch position?

To thrive in a Farm Ranch role, you need hands-on experience with agricultural practices, animal husbandry, and general maintenance, often acquired through on-the-job training or agricultural coursework. Living City Farms is looking for a General Farm Laborer to join our team for the growing season. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, learning about regenerative agriculture, and being part of a community-focused farm.

You’ll work closely with the Farm Manager and Assistant Farm Manager and gain experience across many areas of farm operations—from planting and harvesting to nursery management, mushrooms, produce preparation, farm maintenance, and community events.

If you enjoy physical work, being outside, learning new skills, and seeing the direct results of your work, this could be a great fit.

What You'll Do

???? Farm & Field Production

  • Assist with bed preparation, planting, transplanting, and direct seeding.
  • Weed, fertilize, irrigate, and assist with organic pest management.
  • Install and remove row covers, insect netting, and tarps.
  • Help build and maintain growing areas, high tunnels, and other farm infrastructure.
  • Plant trees, perennials, and other crops as needed.

???? Plant Nursery

  • Seed vegetable flats according to the crop plan.
  • Transplant and up-pot plants.
  • Monitor plant health and determine when plants are ready for the field.
  • Help manage irrigation and ensure plants receive proper watering.
  • Properly harden off plants before transplanting.
  • Label flats and maintain organized records.
  • Help improve nursery processes and best practices.

???? Harvest & Post-Harvest

  • Harvest fresh produce multiple times each week based on crop availability and customer needs.
  • Sort and grade produce to ensure excellent quality.
  • Wash, pack, and properly store produce for sale.
  • Collect and record harvest data.
  • Follow food safety procedures and applicable regulations.
  • Help develop an efficient wash-and-pack workflow.

???? Mushroom Production

  • Monitor humidity levels in the mushroom growing area.
  • Harvest mushrooms properly and record harvest weights.
  • Inspect harvested mushrooms for quality before packaging and sale.
  • Learn and follow mushroom production and inoculation procedures.

???? Farm Maintenance & Development

  • Help maintain farm grounds and equipment.
  • Assist with mowing, weed whacking, and general property maintenance.
  • Help construct and expand new growing areas.
  • Assist with seasonal infrastructure projects and other farm improvements.

???? Community & Customer Engagement

  • Assist with produce deliveries and build positive relationships with customers.
  • Represent Living City Farms at community events.
  • Participate in farm tours, workshops, and educational activities.
  • Communicate and collaborate with team members across Good Place Holdings.
What We're Looking For

We'd love to find someone who:

  • Has an interest in farming, gardening, sustainability, or regenerative agriculture.
  • Enjoys hands-on, physical work.
  • Is comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions.
  • Can follow directions, ask questions, and communicate clearly.
  • Is dependable and able to work independently when needed.
  • Can work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Is willing to learn new farming techniques, systems, and procedures.
  • Has a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Prior farming or agricultural experience is a plus, but not required.
What You Can Expect
  • Hands-on experience in regenerative and small-scale agriculture.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of farm operations and growing systems.
  • A collaborative, community-focused work environment.
  • Opportunities to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Meaningful work that contributes to a healthier, more sustainable community.
Physical & Work Requirements

This is an active, outdoor position. You should be comfortable:

  • Working outside for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Standing and walking for long periods.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and working close to the ground.
  • Performing repetitive physical tasks such as weeding, hoeing, planting, and harvesting.
Our Mission

Living City Farms is part of Good Place Holdings, an organization committed to creating thriving and sustainable organizations and building stronger communities.

We believe work should be more than a job—it should be an opportunity to grow, contribute, care for people and the environment, and help make the communities we serve a better place.

If you're ready to get your hands dirty and help something grow, we'd love to hear from you!
