Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW
Take food and beverage orders from guests in a friendly, enthusiastic, professional, and timely manner according to Ranch LB standards.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

•    Prepare drinks for the guests and servers, ensure the proper materials and supplies are on hand, and talk to guests.  
•    Ensure that minors and intoxicated persons are not served alcoholic beverages.  
•    Act as the cashier for the servers when necessary.
•    Provide guests with the best possible service skills and charm, while maintaining a professional distance using FORBES and the Ranch at Laguna Beach standards. 
•    Make all beverages to The Ranch standards and specifications.
•    Maintain the cleanliness of the bar area through disposing of all waste, clearing and cleaning all glassware, and wiping down bar and preparation areas.  
•    Provide opening and closing inventory of spirits. Fill out requisitions and all necessary paperwork at the end of each shift.
•    Assist in the creation of seasonal craft cocktails upon the approval of the General Manager, Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef and Managers.
NOTE: This description is not intended to be all-inclusive.  Other related duties may be assigned as required in addition to the principle duties outlined above.
SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the requirements of The Ranch:

•    Assist servers and other bartenders when necessary.
•    Participate in the deep cleaning of the restaurant.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION 

Education and Licensing 
•    High school or equivalent education required.  Must be of minimum age to pour and serve alcohol.

Skills and Experience
•    One year of high-volume bar experience required.  Customer service experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have worked at a fine dining level for one to two years, preferably in a hotel or resort environment.

Grooming
•    All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance per The Ranch standards.

Competencies

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities:

•    Must be able to make requested alcoholic drinks.
•    Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
•    Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.   
•    Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
•    Must possess basic computational ability.  Must possess basic computer skills.     
•    Ability to describe all menu items and methods of preparation, and use suggestive selling techniques to encourage guests to choose items that are house specialties.
•    Ability to notify management of any inappropriate behavior from the guest, such as intoxication.
•    Knowledge of The Ranch operations, its services, and facilities.
•    Must have a strong knowledge of wine, beer, liquors, waters, and drink preparation. Must know all applicable health standards.
•    Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations, and The Ranch policy regarding serving alcohol to minors and intoxicated patrons.
•    Excellent customer service skills, ability to organize and prioritize work, solve problems, and make rational decisions

  
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

•    Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by The Ranch environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures like freezers (-10°F) and kitchens (+110°F), possibly for one hour or more.
•    Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to 4 hours in length.  
•    Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously. 
•    May be required to lift trays of food or food items weighing up to 30 lbs.

•    Must have the ability to bend, squat and lift 40 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis and occasionally lift up to 75 lbs.  
•    Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment weighing up to 250 lbs. occasionally.
•    Must be able to exert well-paced ability in limited space.
•    Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill cleaning tasks.
•    Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
•    Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other team members.
•    Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
•    Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment, including, but not limited to, cutlery used in the cutting of fruit.

OTHER
Regular attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position.  Irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Due to the fluctuation in business levels in the hospitality industry, team members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of The Ranch.  In addition, attendance is required at all scheduled training sessions and meetings.

Upon employment, all team members are required to fully comply with company rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of The Ranch’s facilities.  Team members who violate The Ranch rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
