Trial Attorney - Los Angeles Claim Litigation Office
Courtney D. Flannery & Associates, insurance staff counsel for State Farm Insurance Companies, is seeking a Trial Attorney to join our Los Angeles Claim Litigation office. This role offers a dynamic and engaging environment where each day presents new challenges and opportunities. The successful candidate will take ownership of cases, actively participate in litigation events, and engage with clients.
We foster a collaborative atmosphere where attorneys support one another and have access to dedicated support staff, while maintaining full ownership of their files. Because our attorneys are not billed by the hour, they have the flexibility to strategically develop cases and prepare for trial throughout the litigation process.   • Location:
    655 North Central Avenue, 12th Floor, Glendale, CA 91203
  • Work Arrangement:
    This position is classified as hybrid, requiring a combination of in-office and remote work. All hybrid employees spend designated time working in the office. Work arrangements may evolve over time based on business needs

Responsibilities
  • Manage litigation and other legal assignments in alignment with guidelines set by the Law Department
  • Prepare and summarize reports related to legal proceedings
  • Develop trial strategies and manage case progress through litigation phases
  • Attend and actively participate in litigation events, including trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings

Qualifications
Required Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant litigation experience, preferably in insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, or workers' compensation.
  • Recent trial experience handling complex cases involving trials with significant exposure (beyond bench trials)
  • Experience trying cases in the first or second chair is highly preferred

Key Skills
  • Thorough knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law at an advanced level
  • Proven experience handling trials, mediations, and depositions
  • Strong file ownership and case management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Technology Skills
  • Proficient working with electronic case files
  • Experience using Case Management systems
  • Familiarity with Document Storage systems

Education & Licensing
  • Active California law license in good standing with the State Bar of California is required

  • Applicants are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately. State Farm will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunities
