Accounting/Tax/Finance Intern
Position Summary
Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our CFO Organization, specifically, within our Accounting, Finance or Tax departments. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities in one of our accounting, finance or tax groups that supports various business units throughout the company. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, present to senior leadership, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving department objectives and goals. The program will allow you to apply what you've learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns across the CFO organization.
Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
  • Participate in the monthly financial process; journal entry preparation, close, budgeting/forecasting, reconciliations, etc.
  • Assist with reporting (financial, regulatory, tax, FERC, SEC and/or operational)
  • Review financial data to identify trends, variances, discrepancies, and business drivers
  • Collaborate with teams and business partners to gather information and support data requests
  • Assist audit, compliance, tax filings, transaction support and due diligence activities
  • Assist and/or suggest improvements to processes, documentation through automation or knowledge sharing
  • Exposure to various financial systems/tools
  • Participate in/support special projects as assigned

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Current student, Junior status (as of Fall 2027) or higher
  • Enrolled in an accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Data Analytics, Computer Science or other STEM related majors
  • Able to work full-time (up to 40 hours a week) during the summer and commuting to the designated location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale or higher)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical & organizational skills, attention to detail
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn complex business concepts
  • Interest in the energy industry
