What You'll Work On

As a Cybersecurity co-op student, you'll help design, implement, and manage security solutions protecting TELUS' critical assets, networks, and customer data. Your focus may include:

  • Designing and managing security controls and architectures

  • Monitoring threats, responding to incidents, and maintaining a proactive security posture

  • Embedding security into CI/CD pipelines (DevSecOps)

  • Assessing vulnerabilities across cloud platforms, networks, and applications

  • Leveraging SIEM, EDR, and other advanced security technologies

Tools & Technologies

You'll gain hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Security Infrastructure & Operations: Firewalls, advanced appliances, and intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS)

  • Threat Detection & Incident Response: Next-gen SIEM and SOAR platforms (e.g., Splunk, Azure Sentinel, xSOAR), vulnerability management, digital forensics, and malware analysis

  • Cloud Security: Security principles across GCP, AWS, and Azure, including CSPM and CWPP tools for containerized and serverless environments

  • Automation & Scripting: Python, Ansible, and Terraform to automate security playbooks, firewall changes, and infrastructure provisioning

  • DevSecOps & Application Security: CI/CD integration via Jenkins, GitHub, and GitLab; vulnerability management, web application testing, and penetration testing

  • Governance, Risk & Fraud Analytics: Threat modelling, AI/ML-based fraud mitigation, and compliance management

Qualifications

What You Will Bring

Required Education & Experience

  • You are currently enrolled in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical post-secondary institution

  • Minimum of one co-op term or summer internship completed in a technical environment

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Leadership & Initiative: Demonstrated leadership through academics, extracurriculars, or volunteering; takes ownership and drives results

  • Technical Foundation: Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript, C++) with solid software development fundamentals

  • Communication & Collaboration: Clear written and verbal communicator who conveys technical concepts effectively and works well in teams
