Job Summary
Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking a skilled Davit Technician for a role that goes far beyond the typical 9-5. If you enjoy traveling, working hands-on with hydraulic systems, and learning something new on every job, this is an opportunity to build a career with purpose and variety.
In this role, you'll install, test, commission, maintain, and service hydraulic davit systems aboard vessels supporting the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and Canadian Coast Guard. No two days are the same-you'll work in shipyards, onboard active vessels, and in the field, solving real-world technical challenges while seeing parts of the country most people never do.
With over 100 years of experience supporting critical maritime and defense missions, Fairbanks Morse Defense offers more than just a job. This role allows you to travel, grow your technical skills, and contribute directly to national defense and maritime safety while working independently and taking pride in high-quality, mission-critical work.
Fairbanks Morse Defense is currently offering all newly hired Davit Technicians a $5,000 sign-on bonus, with an additional $5,000 retention bonus after 12 months of full-time employment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Technical & Field Work
  • Install, repair, service, and maintain hydraulic davit systems and related equipment
  • Perform electrical wiring on panels and davit systems (low and high voltage)
  • Work independently on qualified product lines
  • Conduct shipboard operations and occasional shop work
  • Maintain test equipment, product manuals, and accurate service records
  • Document work performed, inspections, and technical findings

Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) protocols
  • Complete required annual safety training
  • Uphold all quality system requirements

Customer Service & Communication
  • Provide professional, high-quality workmanship
  • Respond effectively to customer needs
  • Aim for first-time fixes and maintain high customer satisfaction
  • Maintain timely communication with leadership and regional offices

Performance Expectations
  • Complete work efficiently and accurately

Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Credentials
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in a technical field preferred
  • Crane Operator Certification preferred
  • Valid Driver's License required

Experience
  • Associate degree in technical discipline and four years military experience or relevant industry experience
  • Three years of davit-related experience supporting Navy customers or relevant industry
  • Hydraulic system experience required; davit experience preferred
  • Electrical system experience preferred

Skills
  • Ability to read diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Proficiency with hydraulic and electrical test equipment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to travel approximately 45% domestically and internationally.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, use hands and tools, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs
  • Must meet vision requirements including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception
