Parts Specialist
City of Covington, Kentucky
Department/Division: Public Works - Fleet Maintenance
Location: 1730 Russell Street
Hours: Full-Time, 7am to 3pm
Rate of Pay: $24.03 per hour
SUMMARY:
The Parts Specialist manages automotive and heavy-duty diesel inventories. The Parts Specialist will optimize inventory levels, process orders efficiently, and maintain an organized warehouse environment to ensure timely repairs and minimize vehicle downtime.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: These tasks are typical for this position and may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Utilize Electronic Parts Catalogs (EPC), VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) decoding software, and traditional technical manuals to precisely identify matching components.
  • Perform various daily operational tasks, such as preparing new, core, and warranty merchandise returns to be shipped to the distribution center, assist with monthly stock adjustments, and inventory cycle counts.
  • Receive, unpack, inspect, and log incoming shipments and verify packing slips against physical inventory to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain organized parts shelving, label bins accurately, participate in regular cycle counts, and annual physical inventory audits.
  • Place special orders for non-stock or back-ordered items with manufacturers or aftermarket distributors; track shipping updates and notify customers upon arrival.
  • Manage the return of defective or incorrect parts and process core exchanges properly.
  • Provide parts timely to mechanics to minimize vehicle downtime.
  • Handle all phone, email, and counter inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

TRAVEL:
Travel is minimal (approximately 5%) and consists mostly of local travel with potential overnight travel for conferences in and out of state.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Evening, weekend and work hour adjustments may be required as job duties demand.
