Job description

Summary:

The Facility Technician independently operates, inspects, troubleshoots, and maintains critical facility utility and environmental systems supporting continuous 24/7 battery manufacturing operations. This role includes chillers, boilers, cooling towers, compressed air, HVAC, pumps, and environmental control systems, with a focus on both mechanical and electrical components.


Technicians perform assigned work with minimal supervision, respond effectively to abnormal operating conditions, and apply basic electrical knowledge to diagnose and resolve issues safely in a highly regulated industrial setting.


Responsibilities:

  • Independently operate and maintain chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated piping and controls.
  • Perform routine inspections, operating checks, and preventative maintenance on boiler systems, including blowdowns, safety device checks, and basic water chemistry monitoring (per SOP).
  • Operate and maintain compressed air systems, including air compressors, air dryers, filters, receivers, and distribution equipment.
  • Independently inspect, operate, and maintain air handling units (AHUs) and rooftop units (RTUs), including filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, and basic mechanical adjustments.
  • Troubleshoot common airflow, temperature, and ventilation issues.
  • Apply working electrical knowledge to monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical components of utility equipment, such as motors, control panels, sensors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and power supplies.
  • Read and interpret basic electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and control logic to diagnose faults.
  • Perform basic electrical tasks including checking voltage/current readings, resetting approved controls, replacing fuses or simple components (where qualified), and supporting lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for electrical systems.
  • Recognize and respond to electrical-related alarms or abnormal conditions (e.g., overloads, phase issues, or grounding faults) and escalate complex electrical problems appropriately.
  • Operate and support dust collectors and fume collection systems, including inspections, filter maintenance, and alarm response.
  • Perform assigned tasks on Safety-Related Processes (SRP) and Critical Environmental Safety Systems (CESS) strictly in accordance with approved SOPs and required PPE.
  • Recognize abnormal conditions and escalate per procedure.
  • Conduct routine equipment rounds and record operating data (including electrical parameters).
  • Troubleshoot common mechanical and electrical alarms and faults on boilers, chillers, compressors, HVAC, and environmental systems.
  • Coordinate escalation to supervision, the Shift Lead, or vendors for complex or safety-critical issues.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Facility Operators and assist in developing their technical capabilities.
  • This position supports essential manufacturing operations and may require working rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, and responding to operational issues or emergency events when it is safe to do so.
  • Complete work orders, inspection logs, and maintenance documentation accurately in the CMMS / Equipment Management System (EMS).
  • Consistently comply with all PPE requirements, LOTO (including electrical isolation), confined space, hot work, and electrical safety procedures.
  • Support audits, inspections, and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain housekeeping and safe work conditions in assigned areas.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Vocational certificate or associate degree in mechanical, industrial maintenance, or related field (preferred but not required).
  • Boiler Operator License or boiler-related certification preferred (where applicable)
  • HVAC or mechanical maintenance certifications preferred
  • This position supports continuous manufacturing operations. Employees are expected to demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and reliability to ensure safe and efficient production operations.
  • Demonstrated reliable work history and consistent attendance in prior employment
  • Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency call-ins.


Experience:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment (previous 24/7 manufacturing experience is a plus).
  • Demonstrated electrical knowledge and experience, including:
    • Practical work with electrical components in industrial equipment (motors, controls, panels, or power distribution)
    • Basic troubleshooting of electrical issues and understanding of electrical safety principles.
    • Ability to read electrical drawings, schematics, or multimeter readings.
  • Demonstrated experience with at least two of the following systems: boilers/thermal, chillers/chilled water, cooling towers, air compressors/dryers, AHUs/RTUs, or dust/fume collection.
  • Experience in battery, semiconductor, chemical, or high-tech manufacturing environments with strict environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements preferred


Work Authorization:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.


Skills:

  • Ability to independently operate utility systems with both mechanical and electrical components.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS/EMS systems and maintenance documentation.
  • Excellent safety awareness with consistent LOTO and electrical safety compliance.
  • Ability to recognize operational limits and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Experience in battery, semiconductor, chemical, or high-tech manufacturing environments with strict environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements.
  • Must be a reliable team player with a positive work ethic and good communication skills


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with exposure to noise, heat, chemicals, and mechanical equipment
  • Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection

Must be able to properly and regularly utilize the following PPE for a period of up to 12 hours:

  • Safety glasses
  • Steel-toed shoes
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Ear protection
  • Cleanroom suit

Must be able to perform the following activities repeatedly for periods of up to 12 hours:

  • Lift, push, and pull materials or equipment
  • Stoop, twist, and bend
  • Reach overhead
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods
  • Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and computer system continuous production environment.


Work Environment:
  • Work may involve handling or working in proximity to hazardous materials and regulated industrial chemicals.
  • Exposure to chemical vapors, dust, or other controlled substances may occur depending on process assignment.
  • Strict adherence to company safety policies and OSHA Hazard Communication requirements is mandatory.
  • Required PPE may include respirators, chemical-resistant garments, gloves, eye protection, face shields, or other equipment determined by process and risk assessment.
  • Exposure to noise, heat, mechanical equipment, and industrial chemicals may occur depending on system location.
  • Work may occur in mechanical rooms, utility areas, rooftops, or other industrial environments.
  • Team members must be able to work scheduled shifts, overtime as required, and maintain dependable attendance in accordance with company attendance policies.
