Job Description
Title: Facilities Laborer
This is routine manual work requiring significant physical endurance and a willingness to perform arduous task. The Facilities Laborer supports the school district by maintaining grounds, assisting with building upkeep, and handling the physical movement of supplies and equipment. Work and assignments are always closely supervised by a higher-level employee.
Qualifications:
  • Effective communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to problem solve in a fast paced work environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an educational setting.
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Qualified to be employed as a Laborer per Civil Service and NYS Education Department guidelines.
  • Willingness to perform routine manual work
  • Willingness to work under all weather conditions
  • Ability to multi task and meet realistic deadlines.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, sit, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver school building materials and other heavy objects.

Responsibilities: Shall include but are not limited to the following:
  • Attend meetings as needed
  • Follow directives (written, oral, electronic)
  • Regular use of school email
  • General laborer assignments
  • Loads and unloads trucks containing various supplies, paper goods, and equipment
  • Moves and distributes supplies throughout district buildings to ensure they reach the proper storage area
  • Operates hand trucks, pallet jacks, or other approved material handling equipment to move heavy stock
  • Operates air compressor, jackhammer, concrete mixer, and pumps
  • Shovels and removes snow from street, sidewalks, and park and recreational areas
  • Assists in the repair of sewers, catch basins, hydrants, mains and services
  • Collects and disposes of rubbish
  • Performs unskilled work in connection with the painting and maintenance of signs and bridges
  • Assists in repairing sweepers and making brooms
  • Performs grounds' maintenance tasks
  • Cuts grass, trims shrubs, rakes leaves, spades flower beds and assists in ground maintenance activities
  • Performs general building and grounds cleaning tasks
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for service from staff members
  • Able to interact in a professional manner with staff, students and visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality with staff, students, and family information
  • Maintain Data Security as application
  • Operate in a respectful, responsible manner
  • Other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

Reports to: Director of Facilities
Salary: Minimum starting salary $16.44 (negotiable based on experience) as per the Civil Service Employees Association agreement. Contracts can be found on the Victor Central School District website under the Human Resources tab.
