SUMMARY
The Engineering Intern at ClarkDietrich Engineering Services is considered to be an integral part of the Engineering staff and are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. Under guidance of the senior engineering staff, the students will be assigned to design projects. The Intern will learn to perform structural analysis, engineering and drafting tasks related to cold formed steel framing in a fast paced environment and high volume, but professional office environment to include the following: read and accurately interpret drawings; able to make independent decisions on what methods to employ to protect the safety, health, and welfare of the public; produce the design of cold-formed steel structures including curtain wall, load bearing, lateral bracing and/or stability analysis, and truss designs; produce a CAD/BIM production detail drawing package of cold-formed steel structures including fully detailed curtain wall and load bearing plan views, section views, 3D, isometric and other structural details. Work closely with technical support to provide professional and accurate information for our external and internal customers in a professional and timely manner. Work closely with General Manager, Engineering Manager, Project Managers and Engineering Technicians to employ the decided means throughout the design process to provide a professional, accurate and complete shop drawing and calculation package.
Candidate must be pursuing a BS/BA in civil engineering with concentration in structural engineering & possess building design knowledge. Ideal candidate for this position is one who excels in a team environment, not easily overwhelmed, excellent time manager, communicates effectively in all mediums including verbal, written, and calculations. Candidate must be goal oriented, solution driven, and willing to perform team tasks within and outside of traditional engineering roles in order to deliver the entire project on-time, within budget, and to the satisfaction of our client/customer.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PROCESS MANAGEMENT
  • Develops relationships with account representatives, territory managers and regional sales.

ENGINEERING DESIGN
  • Read and accurately interpret drawings.
  • Notify Project Manager of any conflicts.
  • Produce shop drawings and calculations.
  • Draft/draw necessary sketches and details using AutoCAD, Revit or other design tools.
  • Produce calculations in a logical, reviewable and presentable format for internal review/approval and submission to the client.
  • Perform structural calculations using analysis programs or manual methods as necessary to complete the calculations.
  • Cooperatively work with team members to complete engineering tasks.
  • Have all project drawings and calculations reviewed and approved by the Project Manager, and the Engineering Manager or General Manager.
  • Provide assistance to General Manager, Engineering Managers and Project Managers to resolve project challenges and deadlines to the satisfaction of the client.

OFFICE RESPONSIBILITES
  • Manage daily office and engineering duties through tools utilized by management.
  • Maintain a clean office environment.
  • Cooperatively work with all team members.
  • Participate and engage in office meetings and discussions.
  • Build on demonstrated skill set to reach project completion and office goals through a positive team spirit and willingness to perform all team tasks required to complete projects to the satisfaction of the client.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced math skills including geometry, calculus, and finite element methods.
