POSITION DESCRIPTION This position is under the general direction of the Assistant Parks, Recreation and Aquatics Director and is responsible for performing a variety of manual and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, inspection, and preventive maintenance tasks at City Parks and Recreation facilities, including the Aquatic Center, splash pad, Community Center, park buildings, restrooms, shelters, playgrounds, and other Parks and Recreation facilities and amenities. Work includes routinely inspecting facilities, equipment, and systems to identify maintenance and repair needs; performing preventive maintenance and basic repairs; assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of facility systems, fixtures, and equipment; responding to routine and emergency maintenance needs; and operating hand, power, automotive, and other maintenance equipment. Candidates should have basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting in facilities and the equipment and tools utilized in maintenance.

Employees work from oral and written instructions, and established procedures; are expected to work safely and independently and function effectively and cooperatively as a member of a crew; and work in conjunction with various City programs and activities as assigned. Duties require interacting with members of the public respectfully and professionally. Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments and may include exposure to various weather conditions, noise, equipment, machinery, chemicals, and other conditions associated with facility maintenance and Parks and Recreation operations.

Physical strength, agility, eye/hand coordination, normal vision, and depth perception are required to perform the duties of the position. This position reports directly to the Parks Maintenance Coordinator II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Perform routine inspection, operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs of Parks & Recreation facilities, equipment, and systems.

Maintain aquatic facility systems and related equipment, including pool filtration, pumps, electrical and mechanical systems, water testing and chemical systems. Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot splash pad pumps, filtration, water systems, mechanical and electrical components, and related equipment; perform seasonal opening and closing procedures. Perform general building and facility maintenance, including restrooms, doors, fixtures, lighting, plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.

Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify equipment, facility, and safety issues and address or report repair needs. Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively. Perform routine repairs and upkeep of Parks & Recreation amenities, including shelters, restrooms, playgrounds, benches, tables, fences, and related facilities.

Maintain facility cleanliness and address trash, debris, and other routine maintenance needs. Respond to routine and emergency maintenance needs and coordinate repairs with contractors and other City staff as appropriate. Complete work orders, maintenance records, inspection documentation, and other required records accurately and timely including timecards and email.

Assist with special projects, facility improvements, and other maintenance activities as assigned. Perform basic parks and grounds maintenance as a secondary responsibility, including general upkeep of landscaped areas, park amenities, and grounds. Work safely and independently while exercising sound judgment in identifying maintenance needs, troubleshooting equipment and systems, and determining when additional assistance or specialized repairs are required.

Other Duties: Performs other related work as assigned EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & OTHER REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of: Methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, cleaning, repair, and operation of Parks & Recreation facilities. Basic building maintenance practices, including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general facility repairs. Methods, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance, cleaning, and operation of swimming pools and aquatic facilities.

Basic maintenance and repair of splash pads, pumps, filtration systems, water systems, and related mechanical equipment. Basic maintenance practices for facilities including buildings, offices, restrooms, shelters, playgrounds, playground equipment, fences, benches, tables, lighting, doors, fixtures, and other park and facility amenities. Proper and safe operation and use of hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and related machinery.

Preventive maintenance practices and procedures for identifying and addressing facility and equipment issues. Basic parks and grounds maintenance practices sufficient to support general upkeep of Parks & Recreation facilities and grounds. Ability to: Learn and apply methods of facility, aquatic, and general parks maintenance.

Operate and maintain tools, equipment, pumps, filtration systems, and other mechanical equipment safely and effectively. Inspect, troubleshoot, and identify maintenance and repair needs in Parks & Recreation facilities and equipment. Test and operate swimming pool filtration and related equipment and properly sample and test swimming pool water.

Perform basic electrical, painting, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical repairs. Perform routine preventive maintenance and respond appropriately to routine and emergency maintenance needs. Work effectively and cooperatively as a member of a crew while also working safely and independently when assigned.

Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with supervisors, lead workers, coworkers, other City personnel, contractors, and the public. Deal with the public in a pleasant, courteous, and professional manner. Follow written and verbal instructions and exercise sound judgment in completing assigned work.

Demonstrate the physical strength, agility, coordination, and visual abilities necessary to safely perform the essential functions of the position. Education, Experience and License Requirements: Graduation from high school or equivalent. One year of paid experience performing facility, aquatic, parks, or general maintenance work; or any combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Experience performing a broad range of facility maintenance activities, including basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and preventive maintenance, preferred. Experience with swimming pool or aquatic facility operations and maintenance. Current AFO (Aquatic Facility Operator) or CPO (Certified Pool/Spa Operator) certification is required within six (6) months of employment.

Valid Washington State driver's license and a good driving record required. Must be at least 18 years of age. First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within six (6) months of employment.

Environment: Outdoor and indoor environment. Physical Demands: Physical strength, agility, eye/hand coordination, normal vision and depth perception are required to perform duties. Required to lift 10 to 25 pounds frequently; move about from location to location, on foot and by various motor driven equipment; required to push and/or pull equipment; reaches and uses hands and arms and/or feet and legs to move controls on machinery or equipment; repetitive hand motion associated with hand and power tools; and periodically required to kneel, crouch, bend, stoop or crawl.

This position is frequently exposed to high noise levels. This position requires the physical strength to exert force and/or lift or carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds occasionally, required to lift up to 100 pounds with the assistance of another worker; occasionally required to remain seated for extended periods, e.g., on a mower; and periodically required to kneel, crouch, bend, stoop, or crawl. Work is performed mainly outdoors in a variety of weather conditions or inside depending on the assignment and the season of the year.
