Job description

Meta’s Product Counsel organization provides strategic legal advice and risk mitigation to product, engineering, and business teams across Meta’s family of products and services. The organization partners cross-functionally to address complex, novel legal issues in a fast-paced, innovative environment, and influences product and business decisions at scale.This role sits within the Meta's Product Counsel team focused on Verticals and Monetization, including integrity and regulatory-related legal matters —advising the integrity side of Meta's business on novel and evolving regulatory frameworks, building scalable legal solutions, and partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure regulatory readiness. The attorney in this role will serve as a strategic partner to Verticals and Monetization product and engineering teams, helping them navigate emerging obligations around fraud and scams, consumer protection, product safety, and related areas, while also providing broader product counseling support across Meta.
Lead Counsel, Product (Facebook) Responsibilities:
  • Provide broader product counseling to Facebook product, engineering, and business teams on a range of legal subject areas, including data protection, privacy, competition, intellectual property, and advertising law
  • Serve as a primary legal partner to product and engineering teams, providing practical, strategic legal advice on complex and novel legal questions related to, among other things, fraud and scams, consumer protection, product and content safety, and emerging integrity-related regulatory frameworks
  • Build and scale legal solutions that enable product teams to meet regulatory obligations while maintaining product velocity and innovation
  • Analyze new products, features, and business models to identify and mitigate legal risks across multiple jurisdictions
  • Advise on a broad range of legal subject areas, including consumer protection, data protection, privacy, competition, intellectual property, and emerging legal frameworks
  • Drive high-profile, high-impact projects involving legal analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders (business, policy, legal, communications, security, etc.)
  • Influence product and business decisions, ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Proactively identify and address potential legal roadblocks, developing plans to mitigate risks with clear, actionable recommendations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
  • Active and in good standing bar license in at least one U.S. state or equivalent foreign bar license. Where the jurisdiction of licensure differs from the location in which the role is based, the ability to promptly obtain permission to practice law for Meta in that location
  • 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm, in-house, or in government
  • Demonstrated experience providing legal advice on technology, internet, or media products and services
  • Experience with advertising, privacy, data protection, consumer protection, competition, and/or intellectual property laws and regulations
  • Effective communication, legal writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated business judgment, client counseling, and strategic thinking skills
  • Proven track record of delivering results with large-scale, cross-functional projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience making decisions in the face of ambiguity and evolving priorities

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience building scalable legal processes or compliance solutions for product teams
  • Experience advising on regulatory compliance and/or responding to regulator inquiries or enforcement actions
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Familiarity with global regulatory developments related to online fraud, scams, consumer protection, and product safety
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Track record of partnering effectively with regulators or government agencies
  • Experience counseling integrity, trust & safety, or platform enforcement teams and/or general product counseling experience at a technology or media company
