What is the difference between Fabric Development vs Textile Design?

AspectFabric DevelopmentTextile Design
Primary FocusCreating and developing fabric types, textures, and propertiesDesigning patterns, colors, and visual aesthetics of textiles
Skills & CertificationsTextile engineering, fabric science, CAD for textilesDesign software, color theory, artistic skills
Work EnvironmentFabric mills, research labs, manufacturing facilitiesDesign studios, fashion houses, print workshops
Industry UsageUsed by textile manufacturers and product developersUsed by fashion designers and textile artists

Fabric Development focuses on creating new fabrics with specific properties, while Textile Design emphasizes the visual and aesthetic aspects of textiles. Both roles are essential in the textile industry but serve different purposes in the product creation process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a fabric development specialist?

To thrive as a Fabric Development Specialist, you need a strong understanding of textile science, garment construction, and industry standards, typically supported by a degree in textiles, fashion, or a related field. Proficiency with fabric testing equipment, CAD software, and knowledge of textile manufacturing processes is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication with suppliers and design teams are crucial soft skills. These competencies are vital for ensuring innovative, high-quality fabrics that meet both design and performance requirements in a competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced in a fabric development role, and how can I prepare to address them?

Fabric Development professionals often encounter challenges such as balancing innovation with cost-effectiveness, managing tight production timelines, and ensuring quality consistency across different batches. Working closely with designers, suppliers, and manufacturing teams is crucial to address these issues. To prepare, familiarize yourself with textile testing standards, enhance your communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, and stay updated on new fabric technologies and sustainability trends. Proactively seeking feedback and building strong supplier relationships can also help you navigate these challenges successfully.

What is fabric development?

Fabric development is the process of designing, creating, and testing new textiles for use in clothing, furnishings, or industrial applications. This involves selecting fibers, determining fabric construction methods (like weaving or knitting), and finishing techniques to achieve specific properties such as texture, durability, and appearance. Fabric developers work closely with designers and manufacturers to ensure the end product meets quality standards and functional requirements. They also keep up with trends, sustainability practices, and technological advances in textile production.

Job description

Job Type:
Regular
Work Location:
Client Support Center - Southlake, TX 76092
Overview:
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.
We're hiring a Sr.Data Engineer to build and scale a client-facing analytics platform that directly drives revenue and executive decision-making. You'll develop Microsoft Fabric pipelines, design lake house models, and optimize Power BI performance to deliver fast, reliable insights.
This role is highly visible and impact-driven, with direct influence on client satisfaction, retention, and growth. Ideal candidates bring strong SQL, Delta Lake, and Fabric experience, along with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
We're scaling fast, and we need an engineer who thinks in systems, communicates clearly, and treats client SLAs as non-negotiable.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary, paid weekly
  • Next day pay on demand with DailyPay
  • Health/Dental/Vision benefits
  • 401K Program with matching
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Holidays
  • Scholarship opportunities for employees and direct family members
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Leadership Development Program

Job Description:
Design Scalable Data Systems
  • Define and evolve architecture across the entire data estate, such as pipelines, Lakehouse, and semantic layers
  • Design ingestion frameworks for monitoring, observability, scalability, and reuse
  • Make architectural decisions under constraints (cost, SLA, scale) while avoiding technical debt
  • Roll up your sleeves to develop and maintain high-quality, reliable Microsoft Fabric pipelines and notebooks that directly support analytics and reporting.
  • Ensure that data is accurate, timely, reliable, and trusted by stakeholders, catching problems before clients do
  • Optimize refresh strategies and reduce compute spikes

Lead Data Modeling Standards
  • Design advanced dimensional models for multi-client scalability
  • Defend modeling decisions in design reviews
  • Ensure consistency and reuse across the platform

Drive Engineering Excellence
  • Act as a role model for SDLC practices (Git, CI/CD, testing)
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards
  • Improve development workflows and team efficiency
  • Deliver work iteratively with high quality and predictability
  • Ship frequently in small batch sizes

Lead Through Communication and Influence
  • Translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Align engineering, BI, and business teams
  • Mentor team members and elevate team performance
  • Do light documentation to build institutional memory

Own Platform Outcomes
  • Ensure SLA reliability, performance, and scalability
  • Proactively identify and mitigate risks

Standout Factors
This isn't a maintenance role or a "keep the lights on" position. You'll be shaping architecture in a platform that's still being built - which means your opinions matter, your patterns get adopted, and your fingerprints end up on something that scales.
As the client base grows, so does the scope. The senior engineer who steps into this role has a clear path toward owning the Analytics & BI architectural standards and platform strategy.
Your efforts will have a direct influence on:
  • Time-to-market for new client dashboards
  • Client satisfaction and retention
  • SLA performance and reporting reliability
  • Analytics delivery margins through efficient capacity use

This is a role where engineering decisions influence real revenue outcomes.
Qualifications
Required
  • 5-8 years of data engineering experience
  • Strong SQL, data modeling, and hands-on Delta Lake experience
  • Microsoft Fabric experience - you've built it, not just read about it
  • Dimensional modeling you can defend in a design review
  • Power BI semantic model optimization expertise
  • A track record of building scalable ingestion frameworks
  • A track record in client-facing or revenue-driven analytics environments
  • Uses critical thinking to break down ambiguous problems, evaluates tradeoffs, and makes sound, data-informed decisions that balance performance, scalability, and business impact
  • Strong leadership skills, exceptional communication skills, written and verbal, that translate complex technical decisions for non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in agile environments using features and user stories
  • A growth mindset - you're energized by hard problems, not slowed down by them, strong team player
  • Agile mindset and development experience
  • GitHub-based development workflows and CI/CD experience

Preferred
  • dbt experience

Role Impact
You can perform the tasks typically handled by data engineers when needed. You lead by example and inspire the entire team. You proactively identify and resolve problems before they affect clients.
You think in terms of systems, not just individual tasks. You design for scalability before scale becomes an issue.
You write documentation that people actually read. You recognize that a slow dashboard is not just a technical problem; it's a client relationship issue.
You are the engineer who flags risks early, before they turn into incidents. You are dependable, detail-oriented, and collaborative. You take ownership of your work and consistently deliver high-quality results.
What You Can Expect From 2020 Companies
We welcome every voice, and we are committed to building a truly inclusive environment where your differences are not just welcomed, they are celebrated. We are always identifying opportunities to encourage our team to be their authentic selves, while working to provide a best-in-class experience for our employees. Whether that's paid holidays, long-term career pathing options, personal development opportunities or professional stretch assignments, you can expect 2020 Companies to support you.
2020's Commitment
We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive organization and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, pregnancy, disability, age, veteran status, or other dimensions of identity.
