Field Service Engineer

Sterling Fab Tech is a CNC Machine Tool Sales Company that specializes in metal fabrication and processing equipment. We exclusively represent multiple global leading manufacturers of CNC Equipment across the Southern, Mid-Western and Western United States. Our team maintains close relationships with our clients to advise them on machine tool purchases, how the tools can improve their processes, what equipment best meets their needs, as well as providing post-sales support like service and applications support. The equipment we sell includes 2D and 3D Lasers, Press Brakes, Automatic Laser Welders, Punches, 3D Printers, Plasma Cutters, Plate Rolls, Water Jets, Metal Finishing, etc., as well as Auxiliary Equipment, Tooling, Material Storage and Power Tools.

We understand that customers are bombarded by salesmen. Frankly, we don't want to be that company. We pride ourselves in being the subject matter experts by maintaining the highest level of technical competency in fabrication processes and machine technologies. Combining this know-how with an engineering approach to sales, we want to understand the customers needs and educate their team so they can make the best possible decision without any sales puffery. We are looking for a Field Service Engineer to join our team and assist with the technical support, installation and repairs / technical service of CNC Machine Tools for our customers. These machines include 2D and 3D Lasers, Press Brakes, Automatic Laser Welders, Punches, 3D Printers, Plasma Cutters, Plate Rolls, Automation/Material Handling systems and similar equipment. After a thorough technical onboarding and training program, you will:

  • Support the overall technical needs of our customers and sales team.
  • Provide customers with the details on facility requirements needed to successfully install machines they purchase and assist in the preparation of the installation site.
  • Be on-site for machine deliveries to ensure equipment condition and proper placement.
  • Install machines and accessories at customer sites, including all necessary assembly, leveling, aligning, adjusting, calibrating, wiring, and commissioning of machines and accessories.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, software and other equipment.
  • Provide training to customers on functions and proper use of equipment and accessories.
  • Visit existing customers to ensure they are satisfied with machine tools after installation.

You have demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and repairing various systems including mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, controls, and network systems. You are proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and electrical schematics with precision, ensuring accurate execution of machine installations and repairs. You have excellent communication skills enabling effective interaction with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of technical requirements and providing exceptional customer support. You are capable of working independently, taking initiative in problem-solving, and efficiently managing tasks such as machine installations, repairs, reporting and technical documentation, while maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism. Job Requirements

You are located in/around Houston, TX. Although this is technically a remote position, you must live one of these areas as that is the primary territory you will be working in. You have experience in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, controls and/or network systems. You are able to precisely read and follow blueprints and electrical schematics. You maintain a positive, professional attitude along with the ability to communicate in a professional manner with both technical and non-technical individuals. You will occasionally interface with clients at the management level, and our manufacturers are global suppliers; therefore, a high level of professionalism is expected. Are a highly motivated, self-starter that takes initiative and works well independently and with others. Up to 90% travel may be required for this position.
