Job Description

A VDC Engineer leverages digital modeling and construction technology to support project planning, coordination, and execution. This role develops and manages 2D, 3D, and 4D models to improve collaboration across teams, identify conflicts early, and help deliver projects more efficiently with reduced risk.

Working under the direction of the VDC Manager, the VDC Engineer supports model management and coordination between field teams, stakeholders, and design partners throughout the construction data lifecycle—from construction through project turnover.

Key Responsibilites

BIM Modeling & Model Management

  • Develop and maintain 2D, 3D, and 4D models to support project planning and execution.
  • Maintain model accuracy by following established BIM standards and workflows.
  • Assist with maintaining BIM templates and standards under guidance.
  • Provide basic quality control checks to ensure compliance with company BIM standards.

Coordination & Clash Detection

  • Perform basic clash detection and assist with trade coordination under supervision.
  • Participate in BIM coordination meetings, track model issues, and document resolutions.
  • Coordinate with project and field teams to identify constructability and coordination issues using BIM data.

Construction Planning & Field Support

  • Support construction planning, sequencing, and site logistics using BIM models.
  • Assist field personnel with model-based layout, model walkthroughs, and general problem-solving.
  • Create and update 2D site logistics plans and simple phasing graphics.

Visualization & Communication

  • Develop visualizations including 2D maps, 3D views, simple animations, and screenshots for stakeholders and field teams.

Technology & Continuous Development

  • Support VDC software usage and assist with vendor or internal technical coordination as needed.
  • Continue developing skills in BIM, 3D, and graphic software through ongoing use and training.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management
  • 3+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous large commercial construction experience.
  • Experience with VDC/BIM modeling and management software including Autodesk AEC Collection, Revizto, Fuzor/Synchro, SketchUp, and Trimble Field Suite.
  • FAA Part 107 License or ability to obtain.
