What is F1 engineering?

F1 engineering refers to the specialized field of designing, developing, and optimizing Formula 1 race cars. It involves a multidisciplinary team of engineers who focus on areas such as aerodynamics, materials science, mechanical systems, electronics, and data analysis to maximize the performance, safety, and reliability of F1 vehicles. F1 engineering is highly competitive and fast-paced, requiring innovative solutions and constant adaptation to evolving regulations and technologies. Professionals in this field work closely with drivers and teams to ensure the car's setup and strategy are optimized for each race. The role demands a deep understanding of physics, engineering principles, and teamwork.

Does F1 Engineering hire engineers?

F1 engineering teams regularly hire engineers with skills in aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, electronics, and data analysis. Candidates often need relevant degrees, technical expertise, and experience with simulation tools or racing environments. Job opportunities are typically available through team websites, engineering job boards, and industry events.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an F1 engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an F1 Engineer, you need a strong background in mechanical or automotive engineering, advanced mathematics, and physics, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency in CAD software, data analysis tools, and simulation systems like CFD and FEA is essential, along with familiarity with telemetry systems. Outstanding problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help you adapt quickly and collaborate effectively under intense pressure. These skills and qualities are critical for optimizing car performance, ensuring safety, and driving innovation in the fast-paced world of Formula 1.

What are some typical challenges faced by F1 engineers during a race weekend, and how do teams address them?

F1 engineers often face challenges such as rapidly changing weather conditions, unexpected technical issues, and the need to adapt car setups for optimal performance. Communication and flexibility are crucial, as engineers must collaborate closely with drivers, strategists, and mechanics to analyze real-time data and make quick decisions. Teams address these challenges through thorough preparation, simulation work, and leveraging advanced telemetry systems to monitor car performance and predict potential problems. This dynamic environment requires engineers to remain calm under pressure and think creatively to help the team succeed.

Job description

Your Career

The Product Manager works closely with the VP, Product, to define, build, launch, and evolve products that deliver measurable customer and business value. This role is ideal for a product management professional with a strong foundation in product discovery, roadmap execution, product lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration who is eager to make a meaningful impact within a growing organization.

As a key member of a highly collaborative product team, the Product Manager will own core product management processes, including business case development, customer and market analysis, requirements definition, roadmap prioritization, pricing and packaging support, feature validation, and product delivery. The successful candidate will bring product management best practices, analytical rigor, and commercial thinking while partnering closely with a deeply technical product leader to translate market opportunities and customer needs into scalable solutions.

This role also offers the opportunity to help shape AI-driven capabilities that are central to our product strategy. The ideal candidate is curious about emerging technologies, comfortable leveraging AI tools and exploring AI-enabled product capabilities to accelerate product development and decision-making, and interested in helping guide products through their full lifecycle—from concept and launch through adoption, growth, and optimization.

Your Impact

  • Drive product discovery, business case development, and validation activities to inform product investment decisions
  • Define product requirements, user stories, and specifications for new features and product enhancements
  • Partner closely with the VP Product and engineering leadership to prioritize, define, and deliver roadmap initiatives, including backlog management, sprint planning, and release coordination
  • Analyze customer feedback, product usage data, market trends, and competitive dynamics to identify opportunities for product innovation and growth
  • Monitor product performance and leverage analytics to generate insights, measure outcomes, and inform future roadmap decisions
  • Evaluate customer, business, financial, and technical inputs to make product prioritization recommendations and drive roadmap decisions
  • Support product lifecycle management activities, including business planning, pricing and packaging analysis, launch planning, and post-launch performance measurement
  • Serve as the voice of the customer in product planning, prioritization, and experimentation efforts, helping balance customer needs, business objectives, and technical considerations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, sales, marketing, customer success, and other stakeholders to deliver product improvements and successful product launches
  • Track bugs, prioritize fixes, and coordinate product releases and launches
  • Leverage AI tools and rapid prototyping techniques to validate product concepts, improve workflows, and support the development of AI-enabled product capabilities

Your Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or related field
  • 3-6 years years of experience in product management or adjacent roles (e.g., business analysis, consulting, engineering, or startup environments)
  • Understanding of product development lifecycle and Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to break down complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience supporting product business planning, pricing and packaging, go-to-market initiatives, or product commercialization activities is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with one or more tools for product collaboration, product road-mapping, project execution, product analytics, experimentation, customer feedback, design and prototyping (example tools would include Jira, Confluence, Aha!, Figma, Google Analytics, Zendesk, CRM tools, etc. )
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Python, APIs, or system design concepts is desirable
  • Understanding of UX principles and product design fundamentals
  • Demonstrated curiosity, ownership, and a bias toward action, with a track record of learning quickly and driving impact in ambiguous environments
  • Experience working with analytics, financial modeling, business cases, or product performance metrics is a plus
