Job description

This position is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all clients, staff, and property at Homeless Shelter sites. The primary objective is to detect, deter, and report all incidents in addition to enforcing facility policies and procedures. This position reports to the Shift Supervisor (Corporal, Sergeant) and Lieutenant (Site Manager) of the Facility.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interact with and monitor clients' behavior and maintain good rapport by providing excellent customer service. Encourage clients to comply with facility policy and procedures.
Control access at the main entrance by screening all clients, and visitors, utilizing magnascanner / x-ray machine to detect and prevent weapons from entering the site.
Perform Crisis Intervention to de-escalate potential crisis situations and document all such situations and interventions.
Make half-hourly rounds throughout the entire facility including all hallways, stairwells, floors, bathrooms, laundry rooms kitchen, and office spaces.
Complete logs, incident reports, and all other required documentation.
Make calls to police, fire department, and other first responders as directed.
Perform administrative and receptionist duties at the operations desk; monitor video surveillance cameras, and fire prevention/detection alarm notification system.
Provide duties related to fire incidents, evacuation of the building when necessary, and utilizing Fire procedures.
Ensure the safety and security of all assigned equipment.
Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • Must have NYS Security Guard License, and current 8 Hour Annual Certificate (Must have upon hire)
  • F02 Certificate of Fitness- Fire Guard for Shelters
  • CPR/AED/First Aide (Must have upon hire)
  • Narcan Trained preferred (Must have within 30 days of employment)
  • Working smart phone (Must have upon hire)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior security experience +
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Certified in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI)+.
  • Client sensitivity trained+
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, weekends and overtime if necessary.
