What role you will play in our team

We are seeking a creative and energetic geophysicist to join our team at ExxonMobil’s campus in Spring, Texas. You will apply advanced geophysical analysis to deliver integrated solutions across the asset lifecycle for our Upstream and Low Carbon Solutions businesses. You will collaborate across disciplines to develop subsurface predictions, shape technical strategy and business decisions, and drive innovation in geophysical methods, workflows, and technologies.

What you will do
  • Conduct geophysical analysis across diverse subsurface settings to deliver physics-based, geologically consistent, quantitative predictions of rock and fluid properties and spatial extents.
  • Identify opportunities where geophysical insights can reduce uncertainty or improve decisions.
  • Design technical workplans and ensure high-quality execution.
  • Collaborate with geoscientists, engineers, and other functions to shape data acquisition programs, drilling operations, and asset investment decisions.
  • Work with ExxonMobil technical core centers and business units, as well as co-venturers.
  • Communicate technical findings, uncertainty, and recommendations to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Drive workflow improvements and technological advancements.
  • Engage with external vendors, technical consortia, and academic partners to evaluate and incorporate emerging innovations.
  • Support capability development by mentoring colleagues, sharing best practices, and contributing to internal knowledge networks.
Skills and Qualifications

Strong technical foundation in one or more of the following:

  • Rock physics
  • Seismic inversion
  • Forward seismic modeling
  • Potential fields (gravity, magnetics, CSEM)
  • Time lapse (4D) seismic
  • Seismology
  • Solid earth or planetary geophysics
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to tailor messages to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Legal right to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship may be considered for candidates holding a PhD in a relevant field.
  • MS degree or higher.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry or postdoc/academic experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Zoom.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience
  • Record of innovation, technical integration, and creative problem-solving.
  • Experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or other data science methods applied to subsurface challenges.
  • Programming skills (Python, MATLAB, scripting for HPC platforms).
  • Experience using RokDoc, Petrel, PrestackPro, or AspenTech.
