Job description

Position: Extended Day Program Nurse
Position Type: Part-time
Department: Community Education
Location: Elementary Schools - Watertown Public Schools
Reports to: Site Coordinator / Assistant Director and Director
Affiliation: Non-Aligned
Schedule: Minimum of 3 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM daily, Preference for 5 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM. Additional hours on district elementary early release days, 12:00-6:00 PM.
Pay Rate: $44.34 per hour
Incentive Program: This position is eligible for up to $1,000.00 in bonus and/or stipend pay if specific criteria are met.
General Description:
Watertown Community Education is a self-sustaining program of the Watertown Public Schools that provides quality enrichment programs and courses for children, adults, and families.
Watertown Community Education is currently hiring for various open positions supporting the Extended Day Programs at the Cunniff, Hosmer, and Lowell schools. The Extended Day Program provides a safe, nurturing environment after school for children in PreK through Grade 5 from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM daily. Activities are provided that challenge each child to explore, discover, create, and grow.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide nursing services to students in grades Pre-K through 5 during the Extended Day Program
  • Communicate with families regarding student illnesses, symptoms, injuries, and care given.
  • Ensure student health plans, including but not limited to allergy plans, asthma action plans, seizure action plans, etc. are up-to-date for all students and followed during Extended Day Program hours as appropriate/applicable.
  • Ensure any emergency medications including but not limited to Epi-Pens, inhalers, and Diastat, are current, on-site, and accessible to program staff and administrators as needed.
  • Assist students with personal care tasks as needed which may include but are not limited to toileting, diapering, feeding, etc.
  • Maintain logs of care administered and complete other forms and documentation as required by the District.
  • Attend field trips as needed.
  • Flexibility to change school locations as needed throughout the year to ensure we have adequate nurse coverage where the greatest student need is.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Extended Day Program Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Assistant Director or Director of Community Education
Qualifications:
  • BSN or RN license
  • Experience as a school nurse preferred: preference will be given to candidates with pediatric expertise and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience with Type 1 Diabetes care, monitoring, and insulin management
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to move between multiple school sites as needed.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of medical supplies and equipment (up to 25 lbs).
  • Dexterity to perform medical procedures and operate standard nursing equipment.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  • Capacity to communicate clearly and effectively in high-pressure environments.
Professional Commitment
The Extended Day Nurse is expected to work a minimum of 3 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM daily, Preference for 5 days/week, 2:15-6:00 PM.
In addition to their regularly scheduled hours the Extended Day Nurse may be required to attend:
  • Monthly meetings with the Extended Day Site Coordinator, and/or Community Education Assistant Director and/or Director.
  • Attend annual mandatory program orientation and training days.
Annual Professional Development Requirement:
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Monthly Community Education Meetings
