The Design Director will lead the coordination and management of facility design activities for Amkor Arizona's phased expansion project. This position serves as the primary interface between the Architect/Engineer (A/E), design teams, facility section managers, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design packages meet project requirements, schedule milestones, and operational needs.
The Design Director is responsible for developing a design execution strategy, managing design reviews, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering input, tracking design progress, resolving design issues, and supporting construction and tool installation planning. This role does ensure all facility disciplines are aligned and integrated throughout the design process.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop a design execution strategy that aligns to Amkor's capital expenditure goals, its manufacturing needs, and timeline to production.

  • Manage the overall facility design process from conceptual design through IFC issuance.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Amkor, design consultants, engineering teams, and external partners.
  • Coordinate design activities across all facility disciplines including: Architectural, Structural, HVAC, Exhaust, Mechanical and Process Systems, Electrical, Controls, Fire Protection/Life Safety, Water Systems (UPW and Wastewater), Gas and Chemical Systems
  • Lead 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC design review cycles.
  • Manage and coordinate RFPs, design scopes, consultant deliverables, and proposal evaluations.
  • Track and facilitate resolution of RFIs, submittals, design comments, and design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Lead multidisciplinary design coordination meetings and drive closure of design conflicts and action items. Coordinate reviews with Facilities Section Managers and consolidate comments for design teams.
  • Manage design schedules and work with design consultants to ensure deliverables are completed on time.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary coordination meetings and resolve design conflicts.
  • Support development and maintenance of the Design Execution Plan.
  • Monitor design progress and identify risks that could impact project schedule, budget, or operations.
  • Support development of tool installation requirements and tool install readiness planning.
  • Coordinate compilation of tool install matrix information across internal stakeholders.
  • Verify that facility designs support manufacturing requirements, operational reliability, maintainability, and future expansion needs.
  • Work with Facilities Section Managers to ensure discipline-specific requirements are incorporated into the design.
  • Provide regular status updates on design progress, open issues, risk items, and major decisions.
  • Support construction teams by responding to design-related questions and coordinating design clarifications.
  • Assist with managing design changes and maintaining design documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related technical field with equivalent years of experince.
  • 8+ years of experience managing multi billion dollars facility design projects within semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, industrial, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and architectural design teams.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor facility systems and infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with cleanroom facilities and process utility systems.
  • Experience managing design reviews and engineering document control processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents and understanding of facilities systems
  • Experience working with external design consultants and contractors.
  • Strong project management, organization, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and project management tools.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), or Project Management certification is a plus

Location:
This position will be based at the temporary Phoenix, AZ site and the Peoria site during the construction phase, and will transition to the Peoria site once factory operations begin.
