Introduction to Team

Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.

This Software Development Engineer II role is part of the Partner Payment Account Experience team which sits within our Technology division. This team focuses on building and improving the payment and payout account experiences for our lodging and vacation rental partners across Expedia Group's platforms, making it easier for them to configure how they get paid, access statements, and manage payment-related workflows in a clear and reliable way.

As a Software Development Engineer II, you are an established performer who takes on more complex tasks and contributes to projects with minimal supervision, delivering resilient software solutions that achieve expected business results within your assigned projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build, and evolve reliable, scalable fullstack services and applications, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling for clearly scoped product capabilities across both frontend and backend components.

  • Deliver endtoend features across the full software development lifecycle by implementing designs, writing highquality code, creating and executing tests, and contributing to deployment, monitoring, and ongoing operational support for webbased and servicebased experiences.

  • Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, designers, and technical partners to understand requirements, break down work, and implement fullstack technical solutions that integrate with multiple services and domains.

  • Improve code quality, reliability, and performance across the stack by following and contributing to best practices in testing, observability, security, accessibility, and operational excellence for the services and user interfaces you work on.

  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge sharing for both frontend and backend technologies, supporting a culture of learning and continuous improvement while steadily expanding your technical scope and impact.

  • Safely integrate and operate AI/MLenabled solutions that improve outcomes, with familiarity with AIdriven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including using AIassisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience.

  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience.

  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language commonly used at Expedia Group and in core software engineering concepts, including algorithms, data structures, objectoriented or functional design, system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling, with exposure to modern web frameworks and frontend technologies.

  • Experience working with serviceoriented or microservice architectures, including consuming and implementing APIs, working with data models, and contributing to the reliability, scalability, and security of services, along with basic experience integrating frontend applications with backend services.

  • Exposure to operating services or applications in production environments, such as contributing to monitoring, oncall support, or improving systems and user experiences based on operational data and feedback.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to the design and evolution of distributed, fullstack systems and data models that handle significant traffic or data volume, including working with clear, wellversioned API contracts and componentized frontend architectures.

  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of welldefined fullstack components or features, make sound implementation tradeoffs across frontend and backend, and align solutions with established architectural and domain standards.

  • Practice driving operational improvements within your area, such as enhancing observability, automating repetitive workflows, improving performance and resilience of services and UIs, or optimizing cost efficiency of the solutions you support.

  • Handson experience using AIdriven tools, platforms, or workflows in the software development lifecycle, and safely integrating AI/MLenabled components into production services or user experiences under guidance from more experienced engineers, for example leveraging AIbased recommendations or personalization APIs.

  • Familiarity with AIdriven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, including using experimentation, metrics, and analytics to iterate on fullstack features and improve technical and customer outcomes.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $119,000.00 to $166,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $190,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
