Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Assist office managers in supporting and supervising back-office employees
  • Work chair-side with dentists, perform patient care, and general laboratory duties
  • Take and process dental radiographs (x-rays)
  • Prepare and sterilize instruments and equipment
  • Take impressions of the patient's teeth (models), extractions, composite fillings, etc...
  • Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing, and nutritional counseling)
  • Ask about the patient's medical history and take blood pressure and pulse
  • Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures
