We are looking for a PD Co-Op
ArcelorMittal Tailored Blanks (AMTB) is looking for a Product Development Co-Op to contribute to the product development objectives of AMTB. The candidate will be part of our Product Development team to support automotive application co-engineering projects using laser welded blanks. The Co-Op will have an opportunity to develop and master their skills in design for manufacturing, optimization for weight, cost, and performance using CAD and CAE tools. This position will be based in Detroit, Michigan. AMTB is part of ArcelorMittal Steel, the largest steel company in the world. We are a large supplier of laser welded blanks in North America and global company.
Duties/Responsibilities include:
  • Opportunity to get on the job experience to do FEA and structural and metal forming analysis
  • Help the quote generation process with material utilization studies, outside quote inputs
  • Hands on experience with lab analysis of laser welded samples for engineering studies
  • Help develop and assist in market development database
  • Limited travel as needed in support of above
  • Help with marketing activities like seminars, workshops, and exhibits at various events
  • Help with presentation materials generation, research technical papers and in support of product development team

Skill sets:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Metallurgy or equivalent (or in lieu of degree, enrolled in college degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field)
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering basics - Machine design, strength of materials
  • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent is a must
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ideal person will be a self-starter, go getter, innovative, motivated and hard-working individual
  • Ability to travel to support job function
  • Knowledge of FEA is a plus
  • Fulfill all Health and Safety & Environmental responsibilities as identified in the HSE Management Standards, and ISO 14001 Management Systems.
