Job description

Position Summary
To provide general supervision coverage for a broad population of individuals engaged in an individualized
exercise routine and to be capable of adequate BLS emergency response. The Exercise Specialist, under
the supervision of the Medical Fitness Manager, is responsible for individualized physical fitness
assessments, exercise prescription, coverage of fitness center exercise areas as directed, equipment
cleanliness/preventative maintenance, membership and facility policy enforcement, member incentive
programs and delivering excellent customer service at all times.
Education
Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology, exercise science, or related field required. Master's degree in
health-related field or exercise sciences related field preferred. Exercise Specialist or Exercise
Physiologist specialty certification through the American College of Sports Medicine, ACE, NSCA, etc. is
preferred.
Experience
At least one year experience in working with special populations on exercise programming and physical
fitness testing.
Skills
• Current BLS course completion card - AHA Healthcare Provider/AED Current BLS.
• Effective group process skills.
• Effective oral and written communication skills to express ideas clearly. Effective listening skills.
• Ability to pay attention to details, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency
or composure.
• Ability to function competently in stressful situations and the changing work environment related to
changing client needs.
• Ability to work cooperatively with clients, family members, and multidisciplinary team members (i.e.
, physicians, Rehab, Respiratory, DI, Lab, etc.).
• Ability to utilize effective time management to set priorities, perform job related responsibilities, and
respond quickly to emergency situations.
• Ability to use effective analytical and critical thinking skills to problem-solve.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
