Note: This multi-level series (Grade Level 28- 29) includes the Principal Staff Engineer and Principal Engineer titles which is typically posted at the lowest level. The successful candidate is assigned the grade level based upon their skills and background as determined during the interview process.
Job Description:
This position will act as the Lead Design / Engineering project manager and will have overall responsibility to coordinate the preparation and track the progress of all Inside Plant (IP) Engineering's internal design projects. Provides leadership / supervision for Project Management and Design within the Electric Transmission Engineering Department utilizing a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience.
Job Responsibilities
Roles and responsibilities for this position will include the following:
Coordinate the preparation and track the progress of internal Design Schedules for all three engineering disciplines (Civil, Layout and Controls). Utilizing each disciplines' schedule and man-hour estimates, create, update and maintain IP engineering's resource loaded master schedule, utilizing Microsoft project software. Prepare reports and charts for review of the schedule and workload projection with discipline supervisors and managers.
Act as primary liaison with discipline supervisors and managers regarding the progress and prosecution of internal design projects; identifying any issues and facilitating coordination of discipline designs in support of projects timely completion.
Facilitate inter-disciplinary communication to ensure all design disciplines are in general agreement regarding project scope, plan, and direction.
Coordinate the preparation of internally designed project estimates for all disciplines.
Coordinate and track the progress of internal design project costs and projections.
Work with electrical and civil project engineers to facilitate material purchases for In-house design projects.
Facilitate inter-disciplinary design meetings for internally designed projects and prepare meeting minutes.
Facilitate the preparation of scope documents and bids of out-sourced design work (Architect/MEP/Fire Protection, etc.) in support of the design schedule.
Work with electrical and civil project engineers to ensure the timely issue of purchase orders to outside design vendors; process invoices; track work progress and payments.
Coordinate and oversee complex utility design projects and provide liaison functions with Licensing and Permitting Group, System Planners, System Protection Engineers, Asset Experts, Vendors, Project Managers, construction and operating personnel, consultants and contractors.
Evaluate and review drawings and documents used for design and bidding purposes.
As an employee of PSE&G, you should be aware that during storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations. Be on-call in accordance with Projects & Construction for response to system emergencies.
Job Specific Qualifications
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
Minimum six (6) years industry experience in engineering / construction / operations in utility or a related field
Experience with the preparation and review of project schedules and review and interpretation of electrical, civil and utility drawings
Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills
Because the job requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history
Proven ability to present technical information to an audience.
Must have the initiative and ability to work independently on most projects with limited supervision and to effectively interact with internal and external groups
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with NJ regulatory and licensing requirements, including environmental, zoning, planning and construction codes
Advanced technical training
Advanced technical or engineering degree / MBA
Professional Engineering License
