Job Description:

HPE is looking for an External Executive Communications Managerto support HPE's Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO).

About the Team:

With nearly 1,200 marketers and communicators across the globe, Global Marketing & Communications (GMC) powers HPE's end-to-end marketing and communications engine. The organization is responsible for ensuring HPE's value propositions are clear and differentiated, that innovation and purpose are brought to life through compelling experiences, and that the company's brand continues to advance its market position.

As a member of the Office of the CMCO team, the CMCO's External Executive Communications Manager will report to the CMCO's Chief of Staff and work among a highly collaborative team responsible for the CMCO's operations and communications. A key partner to the CMCO's External Executive Communications Manager will be the CMCO's Internal Executive Communications Manager. You two will work together as peers to ensure narratives are complementary and consistent, advancing 360 communications for the CMCO.

About the Role:

The role will help shape, strengthen, and scale the CMCO's external voice and visibility, advancing HPE's brand, reputation, and market position through clear, compelling, and high-impact engagements.

This individual contributor will be responsible for the CMCO's overall external communications strategy and its execution, including:

  • Thought Leadership: Develop distinct thought leadership platforms aligned to CMCO's priorities. Translate company and team strategy, industry trends, and executive's perspectives into differentiated points of view that strengthen credibility and influence with customers, media, analysts, partners, and peers. Connect CMCO's thought leadership platform to efforts of the Thought Leadership team, working together to identify and execute opportunities when applicable.
  • External Visibility: Identify, secure, prepare, and execute opportunities that elevate the CMCO's presence and expand influence across key stakeholder audiences. Drive participation in industry events, media engagements, speaking opportunities, podcasts, awards, and executive forums to reinforce thought leadership positioning. Connect CMCO's external visibility efforts to those of the Corporate Communications team, working together to identify and execute opportunities when applicable.
  • Executive Content Development: Create high-impact external communications that authentically reflect the CMCO's voice. Develop speeches, presentations, talking points, briefing materials, bylines, and other content that simplifies complex topics and delivers clear, compelling messages to reinforce thought leadership positioning and the CMCO's priorities for a variety of external audiences.
  • Social Media: Develop and execute the social media strategy for CMCO to promote HPE's business, reputation, and culture and grow the CMCO's personal brand. Capitalize on real-time opportunities for news making, brand building, and stakeholder engagement while monitoring activity and continually optimizing performance. Connect CMCO's social media strategy and efforts to those of the HPE Brand Social team, working together to identify and execute opportunities when applicable.
  • Strategic Counsel: Serve as a trusted advisor to the CMCO, providing communications counsel on messaging, stakeholder engagement, reputation management, and executive positioning. Help anticipate opportunities and risks, ensuring communications decisions support broader business and organizational goals.
  • Reputation and Narrative Management: Protect and enhance the CMCO's reputation by ensuring a consistent narrative across external engagements and communications channels. Align CMCO's external messaging with corporate strategy, thought leadership messaging, brand positioning, and company priorities to strengthen trust and credibility with key audiences.
  • Measurement and Optimization: Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of external communications and thought leadership efforts. Analyze performance, identify insights, and continuously refine strategies to increase visibility, influence, engagement, and business impact. Connect measurement efforts to those of the Business Reporting Team, ensuring impact is captured in cross-GMC reporting.

They are comfortable operating in ambiguity, working closely with senior leaders, and balancing strategic thinking with hands on execution. They thrive on highly collaborative teams, have a deep desire to build rooted relationships across organizational teams, and enjoy sharing wins with others.

This individual contributor's background includes:

  • Senior communications expertise and deep experience counseling clients and senior leaders directly.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into a clear point of view with concise language for a variety of audiences.
  • Good judgement and discretion when working with sensitive or confidential information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and project management.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to San Jose, CA (preference) or Spring, TX. Excited to work from an HPE office 2-3 days per week.
  • Typically, 7+ years of managing Executive communications
