NextEra Energy Marketing is one of the nation's leading electricity and natural gas marketers, and a key player in the energy markets in the United States and Canada. As a part of NextEra Energy Resources, we specialize in innovative energy strategies that maximize market value for our customers and stakeholders. Our team is skilled in market analysis, trading, risk management and delivering tailored customer solutions across North America. If you are a strategic thinker eager to make a significant impact in the fast-paced energy industry, join our team today.
Position Specific Description
We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Market Risk Management leader to lead a team responsible for the comprehensive oversight of market and commodity risk across our trading activities. This is a senior leadership opportunity for a seasoned risk professional who combines deep technical expertise with strong commercial judgment and a passion for building best-in-class risk capabilities.
Our Market Risk Management team brings together several disciplines that are often managed separately at other organizations, including market and commodity risk management, valuation and controls, and independent price verification (IPV). We believe these capabilities are inherently interconnected and that integrating them provides a more complete and informed view of trading exposures, valuation risk, and overall portfolio risk.
The successful candidate will bring significant experience in energy and commodity markets, with a strong understanding of trading products, valuation methodologies, market risk measurement, and control frameworks. Equally important, this individual will be a hands-on leader who can engage deeply with complex positions and valuation issues while developing the people, processes, analytics, and governance required for a first-class risk management function. The ability to communicate complex risk matters clearly and credibly to trading, finance, and senior leadership will be critical.
This role reports to the Executive Director, Head of Market Risk and Analytics and is based at NextEra Energy's headquarters in Juno Beach, Florida.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled, hands-on market risk and product control professional with proven experience supporting a trading floor environment. The successful candidate will combine strong technical capabilities with sound commercial judgment and a deep understanding of traded markets, particularly power and other energy commodities.
This individual will be expected to work closely with traders, originators, and other commercial and functional teams to develop a comprehensive understanding of trading strategies, portfolio exposures, valuation, and risk. The role requires an ability to move seamlessly between detailed analysis and broader risk oversight, while effectively communicating complex issues to both commercial stakeholders and senior management.
The position will lead a team with responsibilities of developing team capabilities, strengthening risk management processes and controls, and driving continued improvement and automation across the function.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
The Director Market Risk commands strategic development and supervises comprehensive risk management initiatives across the organization. Tasked with high-level decision-making, this role leverages deep market insights to influence corporate strategy and maintain risk mitigations. This leadership role requires exceptional analytical capabilities and strategic vision to guide a large-scale risk team.
