Company: Coldwater Mountain Brewpub
Location: 1208 Walnut Avenue, Anniston, AL 36201
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $50,000 – $70,000 / year (Based on experience)
Reports To: CEO / General Manager

Job Overview

Coldwater Mountain Brewpub is seeking a passionate, creative, and detail-oriented Brewer to manage our 5-bbl on-site brewing operations in Anniston, AL. In this role, you will have the creative freedom to design and invent new beer recipes alongside executing our core lineup. You will handle everything from raw material inventory to cellar work and equipment maintenance. Because we are a restaurant brewpub, you will also interact with our community, collaborate with the kitchen staff on beer pairings, and act as the face of our brewery program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recipe Development: Design, test, and scale innovative new recipes to keep our tap list fresh, seasonal, and exciting for our guests.
  • Brewing Operations: Execute all stages of production on our 5-bbl brewhouse, including milling, mashing, boiling, and transferring wort.
  • Cellar Management: Monitor fermentations, harvest yeast, dry-hop, carbonate beer, and manage transfers to serving vessels or kegs.
  • Quality Control: Perform regular gravity checks, pH testing, sensory evaluations, and strict temperature monitoring.
  • Sanitation: Maintain a spotless facility by deep cleaning tanks (CIP), kegs, lines, floors, and brewing equipment.
  • Inventory Control: Track raw materials (malt, hops, yeast) and packaging supplies to ensure uninterrupted production on a small-batch schedule.
  • Front-of-House Collaboration: Conduct staff beer-education tastings and occasionally engage with guests during beer dinners or VIP events.
  • Documentation: Maintain precise batch records, recipe formulations, logs, and compliance paperwork.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of professional brewing experience, preferably on a pub-sized system (3-bbl to 10-bbl) with a proven track record of recipe creation.
  • Education: High school diploma required; formal brewing education (e.g., Siebel, IBD, UC Davis) is a major plus.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, work in hot/wet environments, and lift 55 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Technical Savvy: Strong understanding of brewing chemistry, recipe formulation software, cellaring, mechanical troubleshooting, and CIP procedures.
  • Scheduling: Flexibility to work early mornings, late nights, or weekends based on production needs.

Benefits & Perks

  • Competitive annual salary ($50,000 – $70,000).
  • Paid time off (PTO) and holidays.
  • Generous employee discounts on food, merchandise, and (of course) beer.
  • Creative autonomy over the draft list.
  • Opportunities for professional development and industry festival attendance.
