Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Market Chief Medical Officer, you will strategically lead clinical operations across the market, fostering a culture of clinical excellence to ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while collaborating with executive leadership to drive strategic initiatives and achieve organizational goals.

This role will also serve as the Chief Medical Officer for Holy Cross Hospital - Davis. In this capacity, you will be responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction and overall operational management of physician services and medical staff administration. This role has matrix reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of the facility to develop strategic plans, policies and address operational issues that build effective relationships between the hospital and its Medical Staff to produce excellence in clinical outcomes.

 

Every day you will engage with physicians and clinical leadership to support national and regional clinical priorities, serving as the primary liaison between the Regional CMO and hospital leadership. This involves proactively identifying opportunities for clinical improvement, promoting adherence to clinical standards, reducing unjustified clinical variation, and ensuring regulatory readiness to deliver consistent excellence in patient outcomes.

 

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate exceptional clinical leadership, the ability to build collaborative relationships, and superior communication skills required to influence strategic direction and effectively champion clinical initiatives across the market.

  • Oversees clinical performance, including quality, patient safety, patient experience, and clinical efficiency to achieve the organization's mission and vision.
  • Serves as the primary clinical liaison between the Regional CMO and Hospital CMOs, ensuring effective communication of national and regional priorities.
  • Collaborates with the Regional CMO and Market Chief Nurse Executive to disseminate and support clinical goals, reduce unjustified clinical variation, and ensure regulatory readiness.
  • Partners with the Market President to set strategic direction and increase the competitive position of the market.
  • Sponsors and coordinates Physician Engagement Council initiatives and assists hospital leadership in local physician engagement and well-being efforts.
  • Participates as a key member of the market executive team, contributing to strategic planning, policy execution, and operational management.
  • Partners with Physician Enterprise colleagues in developing physician networks, strengthening market integrity, and expanding non-acute care services.
  • Supports the recruitment and onboarding of high-caliber physicians to the medical staff.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for medical staff administration and professional relationships.
  • Monitors clinical performance metrics, focusing on support for underperforming facilities and involving the Regional CMO as appropriate.
Job Requirements

In addition to bringing humankindness to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following: 

  • Active medical license in the hospital location state
  • Board certification in an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS) specialty
  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of medical practice
  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of Hospital CMO experience, or a comparable, formal senior leadership role
  • Advanced degree in business, medical or healthcare management, preferred
  • Outstanding communication and change management skills, ability to influence physicians and leaders, and demonstrable Humankindness
