The Role We Want You For

The CDC Project Engineer is an on-site role responsible for coordinating steel procurement execution between the Project Manager, fabricator, dispatch, and field operations. This position ensures that steel deliveries are properly scheduled, received, verified, and documented in accordance with project requirements.

The Project Engineer plays a critical role in maintaining schedule integrity, verifying material accuracy and completeness, resolving delivery and fabrication issues, and supporting overall project execution. This role serves as the primary on-site link between CDC project management, fabrication facilities, logistics teams, and construction operations.

The Specifics of the Role

  • Along with the PM/Sr. PM, coordinate daily and weekly steel deliveries with the fabricator, dispatch team, and site teams.
  • Track fabrication and delivery schedules to ensure alignment with project sequencing and erection plans.
  • Communicate delivery status, delays, and changes proactively to project stakeholders.
  • Support resolution of delivery conflicts, damaged materials, or misaligned shipment schedules.
  • Check in all delivered steel materials on site to verify accuracy, quantity, and completeness against, Bills of lading, Shop drawings, Shipping lists
  • Identify missing, damaged, or incorrect materials and coordinate corrective actions with the PM/Sr. PM, fabricator, and site teams.
  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, material tracking records, and issue documentation.
  • Serve as the CDC on-site representative coordinating between, Project Manager / Senior Project Manager, Steel fabricator, Dispatch and logistics teams, Field supervision and erection crews
  • Participate in site meetings related to steel sequencing, deliveries, and installation planning.
  • Support field teams by clarifying material locations, delivery timing, and installation priorities.
  • Along with the PM/Sr. PM coordinate directly with fabrication shops regarding: Material readiness, Shipping sequences, Corrective actions for errors or omissions
  • Conduct fabrication shop visits as needed to support delivery accuracy and schedule adherence.
  • Identify and report quality issues related to steel fabrication, shipping damage, or missing components.
  • Assist in documenting discrepancies for change orders, back charges, or corrective fabrication.
  • Support PMs in resolving steel-related field issues quickly to minimize schedule and cost impacts.
  • Provide daily or weekly delivery and material status updates to the Project Manager.
  • Assist with maintaining project documentation related to deliveries, discrepancies, and resolutions.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to logistics, delivery sequencing, and material tracking.

Requirements

Education / Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in construction, project engineering, field engineering, or materials coordination is preferred.
  • Experience with steel erection, fabrication, logistics, or materials management strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of steel fabrication, shipping, and erection sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, and bills of material.
  • Familiarity with delivery documentation (BOLs, packing slips, shipping logs).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating across multiple teams.
  • Proactive problem-solving and issue identification.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, on-site environment.
  • High level of accountability and ownership of responsibilities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing schedules and field conditions.
