Job description

Director or VP of Sales (with path to Chief Commercial Officer)

New-York

Full-time In-person (ideally based in New York)

At Interstellar Lab, our mission is to build a future full of life, on Earth and beyond. We believe in a world where technology enables humans to live in harmony with nature, where biodiversity thrives and expands, and where terrestrial life becomes multi-planetary. To build this future, we design autonomous biospheric systems to grow plants with precision, on Earth and in Space. Our AI-powered BioPods and BioCapsules leverage biosciences to reproduce and optimize growth conditions for a wide variety of high-value plants. On Earth, we pioneer molecular and biofarming, boosting the production of metabolites and bioactive compounds while offering sustainable, traceable, and high-quality natural ingredients to the beauty, fragrance, pharmaceutical, and nutraceutical industries. In space, we collaborate with agencies and private companies to develop biofarming units that advance life science research in microgravity and lay the foundation for future biofactories in space, enabling innovative terrestrial applications and long-duration space missions.

About the Role

As Director or VP of Sales (with clear potential to evolve into Chief Commercial Officer), you will lead the commercialization of our BioPods and associated services to large cosmetics, fragrance, perfume, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical companies that rely on plants for their final products. Ideally based in New York, you will interact confidently with C-level executives in our customer pipeline, overseeing all commercial aspects of the company’s operations to drive revenue generation, business growth, and profitability.

Responsibilities
  • Build and execute a strategic sales plan targeting large enterprises in cosmetics, fragrance, perfume, nutraceuticals, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Identify, qualify, and close high-value deals for BioPods and recurring services (monitoring, optimization, traceability).
  • Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline, from lead generation to contract negotiation and signature.
  • Establish and nurture long-term relationships with C-level decision-makers (CEO, CSO, Head of R&D, Procurement).
  • Oversee pricing strategy, contract terms, and margin optimization in collaboration with finance and legal teams.
  • Lead cross-functional coordination with R&D, operations, and marketing to align offerings with market needs.
  • Hire, mentor, and scale a high-performing commercial team as the company grows.
  • Deliver accurate revenue forecasts, track KPIs, and report directly to the CEO on commercial performance.
  • Represent Interstellar Lab at industry events, trade shows, and strategic partnerships in the U.S. and Europe.
Profile / Qualifications
  • Minimum 7 years of B2B sales leadership experience in cosmetics, fragrance, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, or plant-based ingredient supply chains.
  • Proven track record of closing complex, seven-figure deals with Fortune 500 or equivalent enterprises.
  • Existing network of C-level contacts in target industries; ability to open doors at global leaders.
  • Fluent in French (native or bilingual) with full professional proficiency in English.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to New York; regular travel (30-50%) across the U.S. and Europe.
  • Demonstrated experience managing full commercial P&L responsibility and scaling revenue from <$5M to >$20M.
  • Strong technical aptitude to articulate the value of precision biofarming, metabolite enhancement, and sustainability metrics.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with readiness to build processes from the ground up in a high-growth environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Life Sciences, or related field; MBA preferred but not required.
Compensation

Fixed salary + uncapped commission structure tied to revenue targets and company growth.
