Executive In information

What is an executive in?

Executive In positions refer to high-level roles within an organization, such as Executive Director, Executive Vice President, or similar titles. These roles typically involve overseeing major departments or functions, making strategic decisions, and leading teams to achieve organizational goals. Executives are responsible for setting the vision, managing resources, and ensuring that the company meets its objectives. Their work often includes collaborating with other leaders, representing the organization externally, and driving innovation and growth.

What are some common challenges faced by executive assistants when supporting multiple executives, and how can these be managed effectively?

Executive Assistants often support more than one executive, which can create challenges such as managing conflicting priorities, coordinating multiple calendars, and handling a high volume of communications. To manage these effectively, strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and the ability to anticipate executives' needs are essential. Many successful Executive Assistants rely on digital tools for scheduling and task management, set clear expectations with each executive, and practice regular check-ins to stay aligned with shifting priorities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive assistant, and why are they important?

To excel as an Executive Assistant, you need exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in office administration, typically supported by a relevant degree or experience. Familiarity with scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and communication tools like Zoom or Slack is crucial. Outstanding interpersonal skills, discretion, and adaptability help build trust and manage high-pressure situations effectively. These abilities are vital for ensuring seamless executive support, efficient operations, and maintaining confidentiality in fast-paced business environments.

Job description

A Strategic Legal Role with Executive Influence

The M Group of Companies is seeking an experienced and business-minded In-House Legal Counsel to join our growing real estate and property management organization.

This is an opportunity for a legal professional who is ready to step into a role with broader strategic impact, closer executive partnership, and meaningful influence across a diversified portfolio of commercial, residential, construction, and investment operations.

If you are looking to move beyond traditional firm structures into a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where your guidance directly shapes business decisions, this role is for you.

M Group of Companies is a diversified real estate and property management organization operating across residential, commercial, condominium, non-profit, and investment structures.

We believe in investing in people, places, and potential. Our leadership team values integrity, thoughtful growth, and strong community impact. As we continue to expand, we are building stronger internal systems, scalable governance structures, and strategic foundations, and legal plays a critical role in that evolution.

What Does Success Look Like?

Success in this role means becoming a trusted strategic advisor to the President, CEO and Senior Leadership Team someone who understands not only the law, but the business behind the decision.

You provide practical, solution-oriented legal guidance that balances risk with opportunity. Rather than defaulting to “no,” you help the organization move forward confidently, with clarity around exposure, structure, and long-term impact.

In this role, you will:

  • Be a proactive partner in acquisitions, development, leasing, and corporate structuring decisions.
  • Translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance that non-legal leaders can understand and execute.
  • Create scalable legal frameworks, templates, playbooks, contract standards, and governance processes that support growth across business lines.
  • Act as the gatekeeper and steward of contractual integrity, ensuring consistency, risk mitigation, and organizational discipline.
  • Know when to manage matters internally and when to engage external counsel strategically.

Success means the leadership team feels more confident, more protected, and more strategically positioned because you are at the table.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel across real estate, corporate, commercial, securities, and compliance matters
  • Draft, review, and negotiate leases, purchase agreements, development agreements, joint ventures, and commercial contracts
  • Support acquisitions, due diligence processes, and real estate transactions
  • Oversee corporate governance, filings, and maintenance of minute books
  • Advise on regulatory compliance, privacy, and risk mitigation
  • Interpret legislation and assess operational impacts
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, municipalities, lenders, and regulators
  • Identify process improvements and build scalable legal systems across the organization
  • Deliver internal legal awareness training to leadership and operational teams

Your Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and Member in Good Standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in real estate and corporate law
  • Experience working with REITs, LPs, real estate investment structures, or private corporate entities
  • Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience
  • Experience advising executive leadership teams
  • Ability to independently manage complex legal matters
  • Strong business acumen and strategic mindset
  • E&O insurable

Assets:

  • In-house legal experience
  • Exposure to securities law
  • Experience in construction, development, or property management environments
  • Familiarity with ONland, Teraview, Ontario Business Registry, or similar platforms
  • Experience working in growth-stage or entrepreneurial environments

Why This Role is Different

This position offers:

  • Executive-level exposure and influence
  • Direct partnership with the President and Senior Leadership
  • Broad legal scope across multiple business lines
  • The opportunity to build an internal legal infrastructure from the ground up
  • A move from transactional firm work to strategic business integration
  • Competitive compensation with work-life balance
  • A growing organization where your impact is visible and valued

Are you seeking meaningful work without sacrificing professional depth, Barrie offers a growing market, strong community, and proximity to the GTA while allowing for a more balanced lifestyle.

Why Join The M Group?

  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Additional Personal Days and Volunteer Time Off
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • Leadership collaboration and growth opportunities
  • Company events and professional development initiatives
  • A culture rooted in integrity, respect, community, wellbeing, and possibility

Accessibility & Accommodation:

Thank you for your interest in The M Group of Companies. Only those applicants who are selected for interviews will be contacted. We are committed to providing equal opportunities for persons with disabilities. Accommodation is available at all stages of the recruitment process, at the candidate’s request.
