Executive In information

What is an executive in?

Executive In positions refer to high-level roles within an organization, such as Executive Director, Executive Vice President, or similar titles. These roles typically involve overseeing major departments or functions, making strategic decisions, and leading teams to achieve organizational goals. Executives are responsible for setting the vision, managing resources, and ensuring that the company meets its objectives. Their work often includes collaborating with other leaders, representing the organization externally, and driving innovation and growth.

What are some common challenges faced by executive assistants when supporting multiple executives, and how can these be managed effectively?

Executive Assistants often support more than one executive, which can create challenges such as managing conflicting priorities, coordinating multiple calendars, and handling a high volume of communications. To manage these effectively, strong organizational skills, proactive communication, and the ability to anticipate executives' needs are essential. Many successful Executive Assistants rely on digital tools for scheduling and task management, set clear expectations with each executive, and practice regular check-ins to stay aligned with shifting priorities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive assistant, and why are they important?

To excel as an Executive Assistant, you need exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in office administration, typically supported by a relevant degree or experience. Familiarity with scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and communication tools like Zoom or Slack is crucial. Outstanding interpersonal skills, discretion, and adaptability help build trust and manage high-pressure situations effectively. These abilities are vital for ensuring seamless executive support, efficient operations, and maintaining confidentiality in fast-paced business environments.

Job description

President & Chief Executive Officer

With a dedicated team of almost 300 employees and a strong reputation for safe, reliable and affordable service, the organization plays an important role supporting approximately 140,000 customers and the growth and quality of life of the Kingston community.

Reporting to the Boards of Directors, the President & CEO will provide the strategic, operational and cultural leadership of Utilities Kingston and play a critical leadership role as President & CEO of Kingston Hydro. The incoming CEO joins a highly respected organization at an important point in its evolution, with a mandate shaped by community growth, significant infrastructure requirements, and a changing regulatory and utility landscape.

Working closely with both Boards, Council as shareholder, and the City of Kingston, the CEO will set long-term direction, translate strategy into disciplined execution, and ensure infrastructure and capital priorities position the organization to meet future needs. They will lead and develop a high-performing executive team and champion thoughtful innovation and continuous improvement while preserving Utilities Kingston's strong record of operational excellence.

The CEO will also serve as a visible ambassador and public face of Utilities Kingston, building trusted relationships with the City, Council, regulators, employees, customers, industry partners and the broader community. An accomplished communicator, they will be comfortable representing the organization in public and stakeholder settings and translating complex strategic, technical and regulatory matters into clear and compelling messages.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished executive with experience leading in a complex, regulated, infrastructure-intensive or public service environment. They bring strong strategic, financial and business judgement, experience working with Boards and diverse stakeholders, and exceptional communication skills, executive presence and political acumen.
