Job description

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in Compton, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you'll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in Compton, CA
Details:
  • In-Person Tutoring in Compton, CA
  • Schedule: 25 hours a month; 5 sessions a week for 1 hour
  • Rate ranges from $25-$35 per hour

Ideal Candidate:
  • Experience working with students with Autism and IEPs in both general education and special education settings
  • Strong understanding of middle school ELA, math, science, and social studies content
  • Skilled in teaching reading comprehension, written expression, and foundational math concepts
  • Able to provide structured, step-by-step instruction with visual supports and scaffolding
  • Experience supporting executive functioning skills, including organization, task initiation, attention, and assignment completion
  • Patient, consistent, and able to build trust with students who may be reluctant learners
  • Comfortable breaking down complex concepts into manageable, easy-to-understand steps
  • Creative and engaging teaching style that can incorporate student interests into lessons
  • Strong behavior-support and redirection skills to maintain focus and participation
  • Able to adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs while maintaining high expectations
  • Experience using graphic organizers, visual aids, guided notes, and multisensory teaching strategies

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized academic support across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies
  • Teach reading comprehension strategies, including identifying main ideas, supporting details, sequencing, inferencing, and answering text-based questions
  • Support vocabulary development through explicit instruction, repetition, visuals, and real-world connections
  • Guide writing development using sentence frames, graphic organizers, modeling, and structured paragraph writing techniques
  • Reinforce grammar, punctuation, organization, and transition skills to improve written communication
  • Provide support in pre-algebra and algebra readiness, including fractions, ratios, integer operations, and equation solving
  • Utilize visual models, guided practice, and step-by-step problem-solving strategies to strengthen math understanding
  • Simplify and support science and social studies content through visual aids, guided discussions, note-taking strategies, and comprehension checks
  • Reinforce executive functioning skills such as organization, attention, planning, task completion, and self-monitoring
  • Incorporate structured routines, predictable expectations, and positive reinforcement to support engagement and learning
  • Use the student's interests, including Nintendo, VR gaming, online games, and basketball, to increase motivation and participation
  • Monitor progress, adjust instructional strategies as needed, and maintain consistent communication regarding student growth
