CohenTaylor is conducting a retained executive search for the next President / CEO of Hennepin Arts.


Hennepin Arts is one of the Midwest's premier cultural organizations, bringing together world-class performances, arts education, community engagement, and historic preservation to enrich Minnesota's cultural landscape. Formed in 2024 through the combination of Hennepin Theatre Trust and Historic Theatre Group, the organization owns and operates Minneapolis' iconic Orpheum, State, and Pantages Theatres, as well as the Dudley Riggs Theatre and The Hennepin event venue, serving more than 500,000 visitors annually.


The President / CEO role is a rare opportunity to lead a cultural institution at a transformational moment. Having recently secured ownership of its historic theater portfolio, Hennepin Arts is uniquely positioned to shape the future of the Historic Hennepin Theatre District while expanding its impact across Minnesota through performance, education, and community engagement.


Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President / CEO will serve as the organization's chief executive, strategist, and ambassador. The successful candidate will work closely with board members, civic leaders, donors, artists, and community partners to advance the organization's vision, strengthen its long-term sustainability, support downtown revitalization, and expand opportunities for audiences and communities across Minnesota.

Requirements:

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES

• Outstanding leadership skills with a proven record of high performing teams.

• Proven success in financial management, relationship building, and leadership of complex and dynamic organizations.

• A civic-minded mentality

• The ability to develop immediate trust with key partners, donors, and sponsors.

• Ability to build relationships across diverse constituent groups.

• Bachelor’s Degree required. An advanced degree in business, law, or arts administration preferred


PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES

• Knowledge of, conversationally astute, or demonstrated experience with touring Broadway theatrical presenting, concert and variety entertainment promotions, subscriptions season programming and marketing.

• Experience in the arts, theatre management, cultural district activation, placemaking activities or related fields.

• Working knowledge of non-profit organizations, including developing donors, foundation and sponsorship support.


COMPENSATION

The expected total cash compensation range (salary plus incentive) for this role is $425,000 – $525,000.


Salary is commensurate with experience.

LOCATION

Hennepin Arts’ offices are in downtown Minneapolis.


The President / CEO will be expected to be based in the Minneapolis area and maintain a regular, visible on-site presence in the office and across the region.
