Position Overview

The Executive Director is the chief executive and primary operational leader of Community Care Ministry (CCM). Working in partnership with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides strategic, operational, financial, and community leadership to advance CCM's mission and ensure the organization's long-term health and sustainability.

The Executive Director is responsible for translating the mission and strategic direction established by the Board into effective organizational action. The Executive Director oversees CCM's programs, finances, fundraising and resource development, personnel, community relationships, communications, compliance, and day-to-day operations.

The Executive Director serves as CCM's principal spokesperson and ambassador and builds strong relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, healthcare and community partners, civic organizations, and other stakeholders.

The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and maintains a positive, transparent, and collaborative relationship with the Board.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership

• Work collaboratively with the Board to establish and advance CCM's mission, vision, strategic priorities, and long-term goals.
• Translate Board-approved strategic priorities into measurable plans and organizational action.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of CCM's programs and operations and recommend opportunities for improvement, growth, and innovation.
• Identify emerging community needs and opportunities that align with CCM's mission.
• Maintain a clear focus on CCM's mission, values, community impact, and long-term sustainability.

2. Board Partnership & Governance

• Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Board of Directors.
• Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and provide timely, accurate reports regarding organizational performance, finances, programs, opportunities, and challenges.
• Ensure that Board-approved policies and strategic priorities are effectively implemented.
• Provide the Board with the information and recommendations necessary to fulfill its governance responsibilities.
• Maintain a clear distinction between Board governance and Executive Director management responsibilities.
• Support effective Board engagement, development, and succession planning as requested by the Board.
• Provide a monthly written update to the Board no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the monthly Board meeting.
  • The update will include the monthly financial report (variance report, year-to-date profit and loss statement, and balance sheet); year-to-date activity for Medical, Mental Health, Social, and Pantry services; organizational developments; successes; challenges; priorities; and matters requiring Board attention.
• Governance & Management Boundaries
  • The Executive Director manages and implements CCM’s day-to-day operations within the framework established by the Board of Directors. The Board retains responsibility for governance, policy, strategy, fiduciary oversight, and other authority reserved to the Board. The Executive Director does not assume powers or responsibilities reserved to the Board.

3. Financial Leadership & Sustainability

• Maintain overall accountability for CCM's financial health and long-term sustainability.
• Develop the annual organizational budget in partnership with appropriate staff and present it to the Board for approval.
• Monitor financial performance against the approved budget and provide regular financial information to the Board.
• Develop strategies to diversify and strengthen CCM's revenue sources.
• Oversee financial policies, internal controls, reporting, and compliance.
• Work with the Board, staff, donors, grantmakers, and community partners to secure resources necessary to advance CCM's mission.
• Maintain appropriate relationships with financial professionals, auditors, accountants, and other advisors.

4. Fundraising & Resource Development

• Lead the development and implementation of CCM's overall fundraising and resource-development strategy.
• Cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, civic organizations, and other funding partners.
• Oversee grant development, submission, reporting, and compliance.
• Work collaboratively with the Board and staff to identify and pursue funding opportunities.
• Represent CCM effectively with donors and prospective supporters.
• Ensure that fundraising activities reflect CCM's mission, values, and commitment to the community.

5. Program & Community Impact

• Oversee the effective delivery of CCM programs and services.
• Ensure that programs remain aligned with CCM's mission and respond appropriately to community needs.
• Establish and monitor meaningful measures of program effectiveness and community impact.
• Use available data, feedback, and community input to inform organizational decisions.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, compassion, and service.

6. Staff, Volunteers & Organizational Culture

• Provide leadership, direction, and support to CCM staff, contracted personnel, and volunteers.
• Recruit, retain, develop, and evaluate qualified and capable personnel.
• Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
• Foster a positive, respectful, collaborative, and mission-focused organizational culture.
• Encourage professional development and appropriate training for staff and volunteers.
• Ensure that personnel practices comply with applicable laws and CCM policies.
• Oversee hiring and personnel decisions consistent with Board-approved policies and organizational needs.

7. Community & External Relations

• Serve as a highly visible and effective representative of CCM within the community.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, civic leaders, churches and faith communities where appropriate, donors, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
• Promote awareness and understanding of CCM's mission, programs, and community impact.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration and strategic partnerships that advance CCM's mission.

8. Operations, Compliance & Risk Management

• Oversee the effective day-to-day operation of CCM.
• Ensure that appropriate policies, procedures, systems, and controls are in place to support effective operations.
• Ensure that contracts, licenses, insurance, regulatory requirements, and other organizational obligations are appropriately monitored and maintained.
• Ensure that appropriate safety, training, and risk-management practices are in place.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Maintain safe, professional, and appropriate facilities and working environments.
• Oversee organizational technology, administrative systems, and other operational resources as appropriate.

9. Communications & Public Relations

• Serve as a principal spokesperson for CCM.
• Oversee organizational communications, marketing, public relations, and promotion of CCM programs and services.
• Communicate CCM's mission, accomplishments, needs, and impact effectively to the Board, staff, donors, volunteers, partners, and community.
• Protect and enhance CCM's reputation through professional, ethical, and mission-aligned communication.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in human services, nonprofit management, healthcare, business, public administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and management experience, preferably within a nonprofit, healthcare, social-service, community-service, or related organization.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets and organizational resources.
• Demonstrated experience with fundraising, grants, donor relations, or other nonprofit resource development.
• Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and public communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong organizational, planning, delegation, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and motivate staff and volunteers.
• Ability to work effectively with a nonprofit Board of Directors.
• Demonstrated commitment to integrity, transparency, compassion, and service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading a nonprofit organization or serving in a senior nonprofit leadership position.
• Experience in community health, healthcare, human services, social services, or a related field.
• Experience developing strategic plans and leading organizational growth or change.
• Experience building community partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
• Knowledge of nonprofit governance, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with major-donor development, grant funding, or diversified fundraising strategies.
• Knowledge of the communities served by CCM.

Work Environment & Travel

• This is a community-facing leadership position requiring regular interaction with staff, volunteers, Board members, donors, community partners, and members of the public.
• Regular local and regional travel may be required for meetings, community activities, fundraising, partnerships, and organizational business.
• The Executive Director may occasionally work evenings, weekends, or extended hours when organizational responsibilities require it.
• The ability to use a personal vehicle for organizational travel may be required.

Physical Requirements

• Occasional lifting of 40-50 lbs. and pushing of 5-20 lbs.
• Sitting, standing and walking approximately 80% of the time
• A medium to high level of manual dexterity required
• Bending and reaching approximately 20% of the time
