Job description

General Summary of Duties:

The Director, Fundraising reports to the Vice President, Advancement and is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation and corporate major gifts from funders nationwide to support YoungArtsโ€™ annual programs, operations and special projects. The Director, who will manage one team member, will be responsible for securing $1M annually and contributing to the fundraising teamโ€™s overall departmental goals and priorities. The ideal candidate should be excellent in relationship building, confident working with high-net-worth major gift donors, and will have extensive experience with, and knowledge of, the national arts funding environment. This position is remote/hybrid and will require some travel to meet business needs. This position may be based anywhere, but preference is for a candidate in New York, NY or Miami, FL.ย 

Direct Reporting:

The Director, Fundraising will report directly to the Vice-President, Advancement and will supervise one team member, Manager, Fundraising.

Essential and Other Responsibilities (perform other duties as assigned):

  • Contribute to departmental fundraising goal byย securing $1M in contributed revenueย ย 
  • Proactively manage,ย maintain, and grow a robust portfolio of donors who are aligned with YoungArtsโ€™ priorities.
  • Identify, cultivate,ย solicitย and stewardย gifts from funders nationwide supporting YoungArtsโ€™ annual programs,ย operationsย and special projects.ย ย 
  • Ensure all fundraising efforts align with YoungArtsโ€™ mission and strategic goals,ย facilitatingย cross-departmental collaboration on strategy,ย proposalsย and reportsย 
  • Work with theย VP of Advancement andย Sr.ย Director,ย Advancement to create and implement a comprehensive annual plan forย sustaining and growing the current major gift portfolio atย YoungArts.ย 
  • Based on a deep knowledge of organizational and programmatic activities,ย support the VP of Advancementย and other fundraisersย by highlightingย key updates and opportunities for donor communication and stewardshipย 
  • Identify,ย researchย and cultivate short and long-term prospective funders,ย leveragingย established relationships and those of YoungArtsโ€™ senior leadership (executive director, senior staff, and trustees), while alsoย identifyingย prospects that are new to theย organization.ย ย 
  • Responsible for managingย theย Manager,ย Fundraising, providing direction, review and strategy where neededย 
  • Document and track fundraising activities inย organizationโ€™sย CRMย databaseย 
  • Monitor donor trends on local,ย stateย and national levels.ย ย 
  • Represent YoungArts with peer institutions and major donors.ย 
  • Travelย as needed to key markets across the country where YoungArts is engaging artists.ย

  • Experience in grant writing and budget management at non-profit institution(s)ย 
  • Outstanding writing,ย editingย and proofreading skillsย ย 
  • Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivityย 
  • Proficiencyย in the use of Microsoft Office programs and fundraising databasesย 
  • Flexibility to work afterย regular office hours forย programsย and eventsย 

Education and/or Credentialing Requirements:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or the equivalent in education and experienceย ย 
  • 8+ย years of professional experience in achieving fundraising goalsย and progressive experience managing high-performing teams and evidence of responsibility growth in the arts and culture fieldย ย 
  • Experience beyond requirement will be considered in lieu of education requirementย ย 

Working conditions, typical physical/mental demands:

YoungArts physical campus and headquarters are in Miami, FL and a satelliate office in New York, NY. Work is performed in a hybrid (virtual and in-office) setting. Typical operations take place in an office environment and/or in an event/venue setting.ย ย 

General working hours are 9:00 amโ€“5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The nature of our work will sometimes require an adjustment to this schedule, including evenings and weekends. You will normally be advised in advance should your work schedule be adjusted.ย ย 

Travel may be required.ย ย 

Salary Range $100,000 - $120,000
