Executive Design Engineer information

What is an executive design engineer?

Executive Design Engineers are senior professionals responsible for leading the design and development of new products, systems, or components within an organization. They oversee technical teams, manage complex engineering projects, and ensure that designs meet both client requirements and regulatory standards. In addition to hands-on engineering work, they often contribute to strategic decision-making, budgeting, and collaboration with other departments. Their expertise helps drive innovation and maintain high-quality standards throughout the design process.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive design engineer?

To thrive as an Executive Design Engineer, you need a strong background in engineering principles, product design, and project management, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree and substantial industry experience. Proficiency with CAD software, simulation tools, and familiarity with industry standards or certifications like Six Sigma is commonly required. Outstanding problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills help in managing teams and driving innovative solutions. These competencies are vital for delivering high-quality, market-ready designs that align with business objectives and client requirements.

How does an executive design engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during product development?

Executive Design Engineers play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between design, engineering, and management teams. They regularly facilitate communication between departments such as R&D, manufacturing, and marketing to ensure that technical specifications align with business objectives. This collaboration often involves leading design reviews, integrating feedback from multiple stakeholders, and resolving technical challenges to keep projects on schedule. Effective teamwork and leadership skills are essential, as these engineers frequently mentor junior staff and champion best practices throughout the product lifecycle.

Co-Founder & CEO - Entrepreneur in Residence

FutureSight

Toronto, ON

Full-time

Re-posted 2 days ago

Job description

The Opportunity

FutureSight is seeking an experienced, visionary entrepreneur to co-found its next B2B AI venture with us. This is a co-founder partnership with meaningful founder equity, not a salaried executive role.

This opportunity is open to repeat entrepreneurs who may already have an early-stage idea they're exploring, or who want to partner with FutureSight to validate, shape, and launch a new venture together. You will work alongside our team to test and refine ideas, kill the ones that don't hold up, and lead the one that does from inception through fundraising and beyond.

This is a full-time, exclusive commitment to building and owning a single B2B AI venture from the ground up.

About FutureSight

FutureSight is a leading venture builder that co-creates world-class software companies with values-driven entrepreneurs from inception to exit. We are a team of founders, operators and designers with experience successfully bringing software to market at scale.

You'll co-create with a proven studio team, led by John Carbrey (4x entrepreneur, $100M ARR), Krista LaRiviere (3x exited, E&Y Top Women Entrepreneur), Alan Smith (Strategyzer co-founder, $120M in products built), Prathna Ramesh (former MD of Maple Leaf Angels, $275M in follow-on capital), and Johnny Tong (0-to-1 builder, acquired by SAP and Stripe) bring a rare combination of operator exits, institutional investing, and AI product depth.

The Partnership
  • Founder equity with meaningful ownership from inception
  • Pre-seed capital committed by FutureSight for early hires and MVP development, with potential for follow-on funding
  • Venture building resources, including embedded design, engineering, growth, and fundraising support from day one
  • Investor and advisor network across vertical AI and early-stage capital markets
  • A true co-creation model in which you operate as CEO with FutureSight's cross-functional team as your partner
What you'll own

As Co-Founder & CEO, you will set the venture's direction and lead its execution.

  • Validation - Partner with our team on early-stage testing, validation, and refinement of the business idea, including prototyping to validate and sell potential solutions, with the readiness to kill ideas that don't hold up before committing to the one that does
  • Strategy - Define the ICP, pricing model, and product positioning for the validated opportunity
  • Customer Development - Lead pilots, convert them to paid engagements, and build the go-to-market motion
  • Product - Partner with the FutureSight product and engineering team to ship V1 and iterate on user feedback
  • Capital - Lead the pre-seed and seed raises, supported by FutureSight's network and traction
  • Team - Recruit and lead the founding team, and establish the cultural foundation of the company
Co-Founder Profile
  • Previous founding experience at a venture-backed company
  • Demonstrated success in B2B AI or B2B SaaS go-to-market, including sales and customer engagement
  • Fundraising fluency, with the ability to develop investor narratives and close capital
  • Proven ability to attract, develop, and retain top talent
  • Clear-eyed understanding of the risks and demands of co-founding a venture-backed company
  • Generalist foundation with solid skills in a key startup discipline (sales, tech, product, design, marketing)
  • Relevant domain expertise or industry advantage, with genuine passion for solving challenges in that space
How to Apply

Please submit your resume, LinkedIn profile, and a brief note on why this venture aligns with your goals as a founder. We will move quickly for the right candidate.

FutureSight is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds and experiences.
