Job Title: Associate Data Scientist
FLSA Status: Exempt

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for executing the collection, storage, interpretation, and visualization of data for financial, business, and analytical solutions that help the organization achieve its long-term goals and objectives.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze statistical data on large sets and identify trends by using advanced mathematical and computer science skills.
  • Execute the production of statistical models, tools, and processes.
  • Write programs to cleanse and integrate structured and unstructured data in an efficient and reusable manner.
  • Evaluate modelling results and communicate the results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work with actuaries, analysts, and other stakeholders directly or indirectly to provide data, reporting, advanced analysis, and insights.
  • Perform deep dives into a varying array of data sources, determining the appropriate data for the analysis to be performed, identifying potential uses, and preparing for analysis.
  • Complete other projects as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Demonstrate strong technical and analytical abilities.
  • Possess fluency in statistical programming in a language such as R or Python.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with data mining, mathematics, statistical analysis, and predictive modeling.
  • Able to look at things differently, debug, troubleshoot, design, and implement solutions to complex technical issues.
  • Effectively interface with external contacts, Brotherhood employees, managers, and department staff members.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
List Degree Requirement, Years' Experience, and Certifications
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • Must have previous experience with Excel, SQL, and statistical programming languages (i.e. Python, R, SAS).
  • One to three years of experience in Data Science related role is desired.
  • Exposure to and understanding of the insurance industry is desired.
