Senior Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Underwriter

Location: Hybrid from one of the Florida office locations or Fully Remote (for exceptional candidates)

About the Opportunity

A well-capitalized, publicly traded regional bank is continuing to expand its Commercial Banking platform and is seeking experienced Senior C&I Underwriters to join its growing Commercial Credit team.

This is a highly visible role supporting a collaborative, relationship-driven credit culture focused exclusively on Commercial & Industrial lending (no CRE). The ideal candidate is a strong technical underwriter who enjoys partnering with Relationship Managers, structuring complex transactions, and serving as a trusted credit advisor on middle-market and corporate lending relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently underwrite and structure new and existing middle-market and corporate C&I credit relationships
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums including detailed financial statement analysis, global cash flow analysis, covenant analysis, collateral evaluation, and risk assessment
  • Analyze complex borrower structures, repayment sources, guarantor support, industry trends, and policy exceptions
  • Structure credit recommendations and clearly communicate risk, mitigants, and approval rationale
  • Partner closely with Relationship Managers to structure financing solutions that meet both client needs and the bank's credit standards
  • Perform annual reviews, renewals, modifications, risk rating assessments, and portfolio monitoring
  • Monitor covenant compliance, emerging risks, criticized assets, and policy exceptions
  • Present and defend underwriting recommendations to senior credit leadership as appropriate
  • Mentor and support junior underwriters while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policy, regulatory requirements, and sound underwriting practices

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of commercial credit underwriting experience with a strong emphasis on Commercial & Industrial lending
  • Proven experience underwriting middle-market and larger corporate C&I relationships
  • Demonstrated experience writing complete credit memorandums from initial analysis through recommendation
  • Strong financial analysis, cash flow modeling, covenant analysis, and credit structuring skills
  • Experience with larger and more complex commercial transactions, typically in the $20MM-$50MM+ range
  • Ability to independently evaluate credit risk and confidently defend underwriting recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Asset-Based Lending (ABL), Trade Finance, Syndicated or Participation Lending
  • Formal commercial credit training and/or Finance degree
  • Experience within a large regional or national banks
  • Experience underwriting multi-entity and complex borrower structures
  • Experience mentoring junior underwriters or serving as a senior technical resource
  • Familiarity with commercial loan origination and credit platforms (nCino, FIS IBS, Salesforce, or similar)
