JOB SUMMARY

Community Music School Lehigh Valley & Berks (CMS) is seeking an Executive Director who shares our passion for music education in the community and is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of music students of all ages in our community.

The job of the Executive Director focuses on four areas:

  • Strategic Leadership: Development and evolution of a vision-based strategic plan, ensuring alignment of programs, operations, and resource development with the organization’s mission;
  • Educational Design and Programming: Curriculum/program design and innovation, faculty recruitment and development, performance production;
  • Educational and Business Operations: Business and facilities management, finance/accounting, HR and team leadership, procurement, and vendor management; and
  • Development and Marketing: Fundraising, grant writing, marketing and student recruitment and retention, community outreach and partnership.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The requirements of this position include:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Arts Management, Music, or Liberal Arts; master’s degree in a related field preferred; doctorate a bonus
  • 7+ years of experience in a senior leadership role in business or non-profit sector, preferably in the arts or music education
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and media relations
  • Effective relationship development skills and ability to engage and interact with a wide variety of people from a wide variety of backgrounds, including students and parents, faculty, donors, and board members.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and core business software (e.g., Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace).
  • Demonstrated experience in the effective leadership in strategic planning, curriculum development, operations, and fundraising.
  • Demonstrated commitment to accessible music education and student enrichment in a diverse community setting, aligning with CMS’s mission and values.
