Position: Director of Operations – Commercial Roofing & Construction
Location: Austin, Dallas, or Houston, TX
Salary: $130,000–$160,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus
Position Overview
Tiello is actively partnering with a growing leader in the Commercial Roofing & Construction industry to hire an experienced Director of Operations. This executive leadership role is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of commercial roofing and construction projects while driving organizational growth, operational excellence, and profitability across multiple markets in Texas.
The Director of Operations will provide strategic leadership to Project Managers, Superintendents, Field Operations, and support teams, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This individual will be instrumental in building scalable processes, strengthening operational performance, mentoring future leaders, and creating a culture centered on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all day-to-day operations for commercial roofing and construction projects across multiple locations.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Project Managers, Superintendents, Field Supervisors, and Operations personnel.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that improve productivity, profitability, and project execution.
- Oversee project scheduling, labor planning, equipment allocation, procurement, and resource management.
- Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and according to contract specifications.
- Monitor operational KPIs, financial performance, job costing, and project profitability.
- Partner with Estimating, Business Development, and Executive Leadership to support project planning and company growth initiatives.
- Build and improve operational systems, workflows, and best practices that support scalable growth.
- Develop workforce planning strategies, recruit top talent, and foster leadership development throughout the organization.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, owners, architects, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company safety programs, local regulations, and quality control requirements.
- Identify operational risks and implement proactive solutions to improve project performance.
- Support strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-term operational initiatives.
- Travel as needed throughout Texas to support offices, project teams, and clients.
Requirements
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in Commercial Roofing, General Construction, or Building Envelope operations.
- Proven success managing multiple commercial construction projects and operational teams simultaneously.
- Strong experience leading Project Managers, Superintendents, Operations Managers, and field personnel.
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial roofing systems, building envelope solutions, and commercial construction practices.
- Experience managing operational budgets, project financials, scheduling, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
- Strong understanding of contracts, project lifecycle management, construction documentation, and risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational efficiency while maintaining exceptional quality and customer satisfaction.
- Excellent leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Experience utilizing construction management software, ERP systems, CRM platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented construction environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Management, or a related field.
- Experience managing operations for commercial roofing contractors or full-service commercial construction firms.
- Knowledge of TPO, PVC, EPDM, Modified Bitumen, Metal Roofing, Waterproofing, Building Envelope, and Exterior Systems.
- OSHA 30 Certification or advanced safety training.
- Experience overseeing operations across multiple branches or regional offices.
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L responsibilities.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
