Job Summary

Responsible for welding, cutting, and brazing metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment, which includes but isn’t limited to: Pipe welding, Field Welding, Stick (SMAW), TIG (GTAW), and MIG (GMAW).

Summary of Essential Job Functions



  • Responsible for Pipe Welding, Field Welding, Stick (SMAW), TIG (GTAW), and MIG (GMAW)
  • Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Responsible for mechanical equipment conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards; 
  • Adhere to all regulations required by PSM, MOC, OSHA, Food Safety, CJ Bio America, and State of Iowa;
  • Maintain proper amount of stocks for spare parts required for preserving facilities;
  • Understanding the process of the manufacturing equipment and data sheets for the configuration;
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities 

  • Ability to TIG weld piping 
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments
  • Ability to meet deadlines 
  • Knowledge of industrial mechanical maintenance
  • Effective communication skills 
  • Work in a safe manner; 
  • Basic computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Excel;

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, unless business needs require additional hours worked; 
  • Ability to work flexible schedule and extended hours if needed, which includes overtime and on-call 
  • This position works in production areas; Exposures include moving parts, high noise levels, vibrations, varying atmospheric conditions, hot and cold temperatures, chemicals, high pressure steam and dust, and outdoor weather conditions 
  • Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Frequently walks and stands for extended periods of time, ascends/descends stairs and ladders, and works at heights using safety fall protection 
  • This position may operate heavy equipment as necessary 
  • Ability to enter confined spaces when necessary 
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds at a time
  • This position does not supervise the work of others
  • Travel is not expected for this position 
  • Must be able to wear full-face respirator and protective equipment for testing. This includes minimal facial hair in order to ensure proper fit in of respirator in accordance with OSHA regulations. Must complete annual medical monitoring program, including pulmonary function testing.

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma /GED and welding experience 

OR

  • A technical degree in Industrial Maintenance, Welding or related field
  • TIG welding experience preferred
