Job description

Minimum Qualifications Support Alachua County's Resiliency Program by assisting with program initiatives, Climate Action Plan implementation, community outreach, workshops, events, and communications projects. This flexible, part-time internship is open to current college or technical school students from a range of academic backgrounds who are interested in environmental sustainability, public engagement, and local resiliency solutions. Minimum Qualifications Must be currently enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college or university; or at a technical school taking college level courses.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and drug screen test prior to employment. **UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT $18.50/HOUR** **GRADUATE STUDENT ** $19.00 This is a part-time, non-exempt, temporary intern position tied to ongoing enrollment. The ideal candidate will be available some weekends (for event participation) with an average of 10 hours per week (depending on workload and candidate availability)

The end date will depend on the candidate and could extend for as long as the candidate is enrolled in school, provided the candidate continues to meet program requirements. Desired skills include public speaking, written and oral communication, excellent organization, ability to work independently and collaboratively, experience in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Canva. Must have State of Florida Driver's License.

Position Summary As a Student Intern with Alachua County's Resiliency Program, you'll play a key role in connecting our community to important natural resource protection and resiliency initiatives. This internship is designed for current college or technical school students who enjoy public engagement, education, and community organizing environmental work.

Specifically, the position will work closely with EPD Resiliency Division staff, program collaborators, and community partners to advance the implementation of the County's Climate Action Plan (CAP) and provide technical and communications support for related outreach, workshops, and/or events in coordination with staff and the Citizen Climate Advisory Committee (CCAC). While flexible with respect to schedule, we anticipate this position to begin in early September and run through spring (April or May) 2027. It will require an average of 10 hours per week of work, not to exceed 20 hours per week.

We welcome applicants from a range of academic backgrounds and focus areas (e.g., environmental science, economics, ecology, urban planning, engineering, agriculture, water resources, business, law) who are committed to advancing local resiliency solutions. Examples of Duties The following tasks are not exhaustive but represent how a candidate can expect to spend most of their time in the internship: Manage event planning, including coordination with attendees, food vendors, nonprofit partners and County staff Create and design outreach and social marketing materials for events and projects (literature, flyers, mass emails, website updates) using software like Canva Organize contacts, CAP action items list, community engagement links, and Teams sites for ongoing use in CAP implementation and outreach Conduct background research and writing for draft CAP Ch. 9 (Green/Circular Economy), compiling sources, creating an outline, brainstorming action items, and creating language for the document Support CCAC liaison by compiling/creating meeting materials, meeting minutes (occasionally), and contribute ideas for the meeting agenda Occasionally provide updates to CCAC on intern tasks Attend community events, sometimes in the evenings or weekends
