Job description

Location:  This position will report to Power Delivery Training located at the Klondike Training Center, Stonecrest GA. 

Individuals currently living greater than 60 miles from Klondike may be eligible for hotel lodging. 

A company car will be provided for commuting to and from work and for company business only.

JOB SUMMARY  

This Technical Training Instructor job exists to support the Power Delivery Distribution Training organization. The primary focus of this position is to support, deliver, and maintain training programs focused on our Basic Line Skill, and New Hire Journeymen Programs. These Development Programs cover craft/technical skills training from entry level through journeyman, in the areas of building the system, operating the system, maintaining the system and repairing the system of high voltage utility distributions lines, equipment, and systems. The responsibilities would involve the collection, organization, and structuring of information and material into a format that can be detailed and developed into new training, policies, and procedures. 

This role may also be involved in new hire strategies working with technical colleges, Workforce Development camps/events, and other programs that would create awareness of career opportunities for future talent. Other responsibilities of this position will include serving on committees, investigative teams, and writing technical documents for the distribution organization. 

The Technical Training Instructor position requires some travel throughout the state of Georgia as well as the Southern Company's regions, which may include some overnights and weekends. The incumbent must be able to support extended storm duty as needed.

 JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Extensive experience in Overhead and Underground Distribution Construction and Maintenance required.  Lone worker experience is a plus.
  • 6 years Line experience preferred along with a minimum of two years' experience as Journeyman required.
  • Previous experience in a training role delivering presentations to a group audience (or classroom) is a plus

Typical Job Duties

  • Champion safety, serve as a safety champion for employees through demonstration, teaching, coaching, actively caring and leading by example
  • Work with Training Support Services to help develop and maintain training programs as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Power Delivery Organization
  • Regularly review student performance and provide developmental feedback
  • Provide subject matter expertise to other work groups, with regards to work methods, materials, equipment, and tools associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of high voltage utility distribution systems 
  • Serve as a liaison to field representatives on the solution of technical, and operational issues
  • Provide technical expertise on various committee assignments
  • Serve as an FRC/ACS during storm restoration or provide damage assessment

This position has been identified as a role that will require the use of a Georgia Power fleet vehicle.  The following will be required if you are selected for this position:

  • Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience as a licensed driver (Must hold a valid driver's license for the class vehicle to be operated. Driving permits are not typically considered a valid driver's license). 

  • Must have no revocation of driving privileges within the 36 months prior to application, no convictions of major traffic violations (DUI, hit and run, reckless driving, etc.) within the 12 months prior to application, or any pending charges for a major traffic violation at the time of application.
