Litigation Paralegal

Raleigh, NC • Hybrid

$34/hr

Full-time

Re-posted 19 days ago

Job description

At North State Law, we're looking for a dedicated Litigation Paralegal to join our team, where you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact in Professional License Defense and Administrative Law. You'll be part of a supportive, collaborative environment that values honesty, ongoing communication, innovation, and transparency. We believe in empowering our team with a hybrid work model, offering flexibility while ensuring you have the support you need during your first sixty days in the office. Your work will focus on engaging, unique legal challenges, without the pressure of meeting hourly billing goals, thanks to our flat fee structure.
We're proud to offer a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits designed to support your well-being and career growth. After three months, you'll have the option to work from home, with health insurance kicking in after six months, and a 401(k) match available after a year. We thrive on a culture that balances hard work with understanding the importance of a healthy work-life balance. If you're ready to take ownership of your responsibilities and grow within a positive, respectful workplace, we invite you to apply through our designated process.

Compensation:

$25 - $34 hourly plus discretionary quarterly bonus

Responsibilities:
  • Draft motions, petitions, and other documents for filing with a Board, through the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), or with the North Carolina State Court.
  • While many filings are essentially standard “forms,” we also have motions, proposed orders, and other court documents that allow you to exercise your creativity.
  • Electronically file documents through the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) website, as well as through the NC State Court.
  • We will also need to file documents with the state court by mail, so you’ll need to create “Letters of Transmittal” (fancy wording for cover letters), print all documents required for filing, obtain the assigned attorney’s signature on the necessary documents, and make all required copies for the court to return and for service on opposing counsel. We have detailed procedures for this in the firm’s Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Draft timelines of events for cases. This is probably THE most important task to be completed in all cases. A timeline of events is a great way for the attorney assigned to the case to refer back to what has factually occurred and to see what has been filed and when. This is very important and will be your responsibility for each case. We have detailed procedures for this in the firm’s Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Create trial/hearing binders. These are critical for litigation.
  • The trial/hearing binders will contain all exhibits for the hearing or trial and will include an “Exhibit List,” as well as a cover sheet to be placed in the clear plastic sleeve on the front of the binder. We have detailed procedures for this in the firm’s Policies and Procedures Manual. You won’t be responsible for anything else in the Trial/Hearing Procedure, though.
  • Conduct legal research for cases. This is critically important and will be a major focus of this position.
  • We need someone who knows how to conduct legal research and is very good at it.
  • You’ll be assisting all attorneys in the firm with research projects, and you’ll be responsible for expanding our “Legal Resources” database with information on various topics related to Administrative Law and Professional License Defense.

Qualifications:
  • Paralegal Certification in North Carolina.

  • This position requires at least three (3) years of experience as a North Carolina-certified paralegal.

  • We believe in the value of a hybrid work environment to assist team members in balancing their priorities

  • The first sixty days, while we are getting to know one another, will be in the office so we can determine the best hybrid schedule for your situation

  • Client billing is on a flat fee basis, so you will not have to worry about meeting a set hourly billing goal

  • We believe in having measurable data in order to determine success in each of our roles to accomplish the goals of clients and the firm
